I'm volunteering to help create a people-powered street market for West Norwood called the West Norwood Feast. The market will consist of four market 'hubs', including Gardeners' Corner - a fantastic market where people can buy gardening wares and also talk to like-minded people, pick up expert advice and new skills. We felt it important to include a garden market as West Norwood has a high number of owner-occupiers with gardens and not much to cater for them. The West Norwood Feast will pop up all over West Norwood on the first Sunday of every month from Sunday 3rd April. It has been created by the people who live in West Norwood with the help of Space Makers Agency – the social enterprise that was responsible for the Brixton Village project, along with Lambeth Council. The idea is to put West Norwood on the map and create something exciting for the people who live here. We think the opportunity is to create a market that isn't just about the exchange of money for goods. It'll also be a place to learn new skills, meet new people and enjoy wonderful music and street theatre. The other 'hubs' you'll find at the Feast are: Retro Village, The Food Fair and The Artisan Market.
