I have been an elected volunteer Trustee of the Arboricultural Association since the AGM in September 1999, and was the elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees for two years, from September 2003 to August 2005. In May 2009 I was elected to the Chair of the Association’s Media and Communications Committee. Whilst I was working for the Arboricultural Association I was responsible for the preparation of the widely adopted Risk Assessment for Commercial Arboriculture and the Standard Conditions of Contract and Specifications for Tree Works. I have held, and continue to hold, positions on BSI committees and University Advisory Boards, including current roles for the Universities of Central Lancashire, of Sunderland and of Northampton. I sit on Lantra’s Trees and Timber Industry Group representing employers and am part of their Diploma Employer Champions’ Network. I am now an examiner for the arboricultural profession’s highest qualification, the Professional Diploma in Arboriculture, an NQF level 6 award managed by ABC Awards.
