  • Cornish shovel. Best tool by far. Lots of history and reasons for the shape & angle of head/ length of handle.

  • Mine is the Fiskars UP86 4 metre pruning tool; lightweight, sturdy and gets jobs done much more efficiently than having to use ladders.

Probably my Felcos - they stay sharp for ages and are used (and abused) most days!
  • Stihl vacuum/blower, being a one man band makes it much more efficient clearing up from edgings to hedge prunings etc. Couldn't be with out it.

  • Cornish shovels are awesome, but I'm unaware of the history behind it. So I guess I will have some research bedtime reading tonight.

Never used the Fiskar UP86 but it does look like a tidy bit of kit!

I keep meaning to add a decent set of pruners to our web site, but I agree Falcos is a quality product.

I'm a big kid lol so a Vac/Blower would be right up my street haha.

The Fiskars/wilkinson sword power spade.... I love the light weight, the long handle and the angle of the blade...but they are far from perfect - the weld around the blade goes after a while, and I would prefer another 2 inches on the handle (I'm 6ft). Nevertheless still the best widely available long handled spade I've found. Straight shafts like the Snoeber don't quite cut it for me, and I couldn't live with a T handle. I am very particular about my spades...does it show?

Very interested by your spade at JS tools Simon - how long is the shaft - It doesn't say on your website.

On the mowers front, the etesia Pro46 is an unstoppable machine.

It will cut long grass almost as quickly as you can run with the machine (it is around 30kg so not massively heavy) and copes is all conditions.

We have been amazed on the number of jobs where we have cut grass in June (first cut of the year! - called in by someone who hasn't got around to doing it usually) and they cut and collect in one go. In the past lawns would need to be strimmed, raked, strimmed and raked again and then they would be ready for cutting.

The Etesias earn us money! (Although I much prefer (on the pedestrian front the pro 46 to the pro51).
  • Hi Doug,

nothing wrong with being fussy about tools!! nothing worse than being disappointed with a tool you pay hard cash for. Sorry I was doing some maintenance on the site, not sure what has happened to my spade size icons. They have disappeared for some reason. Ill fix it over the weekend but off the top of my head the spade is circa 1200mm from tip to toe.

The old joke... How do you confuse an Irish man - Hand him to shovels and tell him to take his pick.

Backpack blower, goes to nearly every job.

  • My sheath knife I build myself. Brass, antler and beech handle.
