Van Storage - any ideas?

I've got a little combo van which I just chuck my tools in the back of which is getting to be a real pain...has anyone come up with a good system for storing tools securely in a van? Any suggestion would be most welcome...

  • check pro-gards pictures of his van !
  • I've got a Combo will post some pics later.
It's not a pretty setup but with the use of various bungies allows for carrying 2 mowers and all hand tools.
Next step for me is a Connect LWB high roof van.

  • Like I said not very pretty, but does the job for me.
Everything can be easily removed so that there is space for waste if needed.
  • nick ,
whats the xr 44 item ?? i cants see ? is it a hover mower?

    thanks rob
  • I had a test run in a connect high roof- lwb today

Very nice van, drives well, feels well built, but i'm just a bit dubious about the size, the internal floor space is right on the max length of my mower and strimmer.

Nick, you make the back of your van look like a tardis !
  • Robin,

The XR44 is a small hover mower, I bought it for the lawns I have to cut where a mower needs to be carried through the house. It is light enough for 1 man to easily carry, only thing is it doesn't do a very good job. It has plastic flexi blades much like a strimmer and makes hard work of long grass, can't cut very close and you have to rake up the cuttings.
  • Hi Paul,

Just graduating to a SWB medium top tranny tomorrow and looking to deck it out like yours :)

Can I ask what you are using to hold your tools tight to the shelving? It looks like velcro straps to me but not sure......many thanks again Paul.

Here you go, I loath dissorder of any form as it only equals ineficency. Im almost happy with things barr the fact I need to modify the shealves to take my back pack blower.

I rekon without the racking it would take a long wheelbase van to acomodate all my kit.

Waste removal is not something I do but on large sites were I need to transport waste onsite then even with the racking I can get four full one ton bags of clipings in stacked up with the mower out.

  • Gees Paul that looks tight!

Now I've gone down the road of "only taking what is necessary for the job" several times, but I ALWAYS find that whatever it is I left at home...........I need it!!

You know what it's like, "oh its just a lawn job, I'll leave the hedge trimmer at home" - then you get there and the customer asks you to cut the hedge..........

or "it's just a hedge job, I won't need the mower" - then you realise that your hedge trimmings are all over the lawn and you could have sucked them up using the mower!

.........so when I get my big tranny, I plan on taking everything I own, every time I go out.

    Fiat Scudo.

Some old roof bars, 2 ladder hooks from ebay & a bungee strap helped me to secure my strimmer & long reach to the roof. This frees up floor space & makes a HUGE difference. After that it's amazing what you can fit in when you try!

I only take the essentials & any kit I think I will need on any given day. I couldn't fit all my tools in a van of my size unfortunately.

  • Paul is that a BPS Access Multi ladder there? I sat next to the guys for 2 long days at Gardening Scotland and saw them demonstrate it around 1000 times, sick of the sight of them heh!

This is how I have my van set up. Ladders, if needed, sit across the wooden cross plank, leaving me still free to use the mowers and other bits of kit.

I also now have a 5l sprayer sitting underneath the 16l one.

  • Hence the reason I carry both mowers Paul! One in the side and one in the back. It's a SWB low roof transit and I'm not tempted to get something bigger.

If I need to carry waste it goes in bulk bags in a 6ft trailer.
