Scaffold towers for hedge trimming

Do many people use these?

Price?

Weight?

Size?

How well built are they? (i.e. rust after a few months? Clips breaking quickly etc. etc.)

How long do they take to set up?

How small do they brake down to?

I'm sick of balancing at the top of a ladder leant into a hedge and not being able to get the quality of trim I want to get.

Thanks.

  • Have used them, to good effect but you have to be on level ground.

Price? can be up to £700 for a good set up to 5m

Weight? In parts no problem, as a set pretty heavy and bulky.

    Size? as above.

The ones I have used are aluminium and last for ever even left outside.

How long do they take to set up?

Pretty quick when you know how, best with 2 people.

You would as good as fill the back of a transit van with a 5m tower.

Would say if your using these a lot would be worth getting a fall arrest harness with lanyards to clip on.

  • I use one of these. Not exactly pro or extremely high but better than a set of steps.
Think it was around £99 inc del a few years ago. Folds down fits in van and leave in shed garage when not in use.

I use a platform ladder which is generally high enough, scaffolding does work but is expensive cumbersome and fiddly to erect
  • Bought one a few years ago. Quick to assemble. Very handy little platform.

  • I have hired large ones in the past. They are bulky and slow to put together but very stable when up and do allow you to reach very high hedges.

Yeah those were the sorts i was thinking of Ben thanks.

  • We use one of the type in Ben's pics, but only go up one 'storey'. We use it all the time for hedge cutting and it is simple to set up, if a little time consuming, once you get in a rhythm with two of you.
