  • Formal lawns only or do you rough cut/side discharge?

I have a harrier 56pro and toro turfmaster. So I really have the best of both worlds. Today I was side discharging on semi formal areas with no problems

Perhaps the question should be, what do your customers prefer?

If they like the striped formal look then really a roller mower is the best way to go.

Personally all domestic lawns and some higher end commercial are 'striped and rolled', wheeled mowers used on mulching sites or 'discharge only' cutting.

  • A roller mower will leave a better overall look and most our customers prefer the stripey look.  I know that a drag mat will give a similar effect, but not the same quality.  If you have an assortment of gardens, then a fleet of different mowers is where you need to aim.  We use Hayter Harrier 48's and 56 with roller and Toro mulchers, with a nice little Clippo with handy adjustable handles so you can cut up to a fence on a bank - very handy!

I would buy a roller mower Phil, ideally a  Hayter Harrier or something similar (Hayter spare parts are reasonably priced). With a roller mower you have the added benefit of stripes which generally customers like and as Colin mentioned, depending on your situation, ideally you could do with a few various types of machine, thinking ahead.for the long term. By the best quality machine you can afford and the widest cut possible, it will pay off in the long run.
