Powered suction lifters

Hi All,

We are soon laying some 170sqm of sawn Yorkstone 50mm thick, 900x600 stretcher bond, and to save my guys backs, fingers etc I am looking to invest in some decent lifting equipment.

I met the www.probst-handling.co.uk guy at the landscape show, and he showed me http://www.probst.eu/en/products/29/66/128/134.html?tx_wesproducts_pi1[product]=883&tx_wesproducts_pi1[action]=show&tx_wesproducts_pi1[controller]=Product&cHash=7fe0a8c124aad5c00a82037a696320c8

Has anyone used these? How do these work when you can't walk on what you have just laid!? Input would be fantastic.

Many thanks,

Ben

  • for heavy slabs they are great, i own 2 of them a 2 man lift and a 1 man lifter from probst, makes it alot easer, i hang smaller one from digger for stacking and moving close to where laying

  • Hi Ben,

I wouldn't lay slabs without one! We purchased a Probst VPH and the wheeled trolley attachment. Best money we've spent. It's not just the speed and ease that you can lay at but the ease with which you can lift the slabs to adjust bedding etc. I found  that laying slabs was already difficult but lifting them back up for whatever reason was much harder. The Probst makes it so simple.

Regarding the walking about on them after laying. We would obviously start at the back of the project and work out and where we needed to stand on a newly laid slab we'd simply place a piece of timber or ply on the slab to spread the layer's weight. Easy!

We've recently been suspending ours from a mini-digger to lay very heavy steps. It works wonders.

We bought new but you can look on Ebay for deals. You'll wonder what you did without it.

PS. Get 2 batteries. Always ready to go when one runs out of charge!
