Just out of interest, is there a road that borders any part of the garden that you could get a grab bucket over? If so, just get the soil delivered that way.
I was looking at a Kanga Kid with a front loading bucket at a hire shop recently, maybe this would be a solution - however, I'm not sure of the machine width?? - http://www.kangaloader.co.uk/2-series-kanga-loader.asp - I'm thinking of hiring one next week with an auger for post holes.
im with bird,can you get a grab/lift n shift near the garden....or a couple of teenagers for £40 a day..perhaps not!!!
My name is ofer, nice to meet you, I had to take about the same 10 tonns this summer. back in the passed I had workers to do it but not this summer.
but I actually found that its not too bad with a good wheel barrows . half the work is to load your soil so it means to hire 2 tools. to take 20 tons is not more than 4-8 hours job. I could split it for 2 days and did some others jobs in that garden.
when I checked prices to hire tools best prices were with local contractors that sometimes dont use their tools. I cant really remember the prices, sorry.I remember that I was told the price per day or 2 days is no much different. but you need it for few hours.
do you want me to help you - where are you based?
find someone to help you with a barrow -that what I will do next time.
feel free to contact me with anything else.
Bird - if only there were a road nearby - the garden backs onto open countryside, and I know from experience that heavy trucks and grasssy fields don't mix. If there were an alternative to barrows, I'd be there !
The Kanga is an interesting idea tho - the bucket doesn't look very big, so lots of loads for 20 tonnes i'm guessing, but it would eliminate all the shovelling.....Hmmm
open country, what about tractor and trailer(local farmer)?
kanga max lift is 100kg
If the Kanga has a max lift of 100Kg it's a possible option as you'll eliminate most of the shovelling and it carries a tad more than a barrow. Having said that, a power barrow would still be my favoured means.
