Hello, I have spent the last few days trying to decide who to make my new website with (last one was a very poor template from yola which cost £16 per month and achieved very little). Since looking around, it seems very apparent that all the review companies have a very different opinion on which one offers the best value etc so it's become quite a daunting task. So far, based on price, I have found one.com to cost the least at less than £30 for the year with no price increases the following year, but what is it that they don't offer that others do? One.com seem to be rediculously cheap in comparisson to any other reputable hosting company. There are lots of special offers which make the other companies seem cheaper at a glance but on close inspection, the rates dramatically increase after the first term ( I say term as each company has different terms eg 1 month, 3 months, 1 year, 2 years or 3 years) so what says £1.50 per month actually becomes £6 a month after their first term which could be in a months time or 3 years time. I don't mind paying more if I get more but I'm failing to see what it is that the other companies offer that would benefit a basic information website and warrant the extra money spent.

I'm hoping someone has recently gone thru this and may know of some good choices or even ones they would strictly avoid.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • I've just had a webpage done by https://www.sographics.co.uk/, recommended to my by Nick Milne (thanks Nick!)

Not a lot of money for a single page, and cheap annual hosting. Every job will cost different, but mine is certainly a lot less than £16 per month. I looked at the website DIY sites, and had a 1&1 website previously, but it was cheaper to have it professionally designed and hosted.

One less thing for me to get wrong!

  • I build my own websites. So my view is a bit different. As far as I am concerned it's not about cost as such, but more about user friendliness, support, anti-hacking, space, unlimited bandwidth, apps and software.

I have been with 123-reg.co.uk for many many years, going back to 2003 (they went through some name changes and aquisitions). UK call and support centre is important for me.

They changed the packages since I last looked but the 4 packages they do have seems reasonable for what you are getting. My own site is on the equivalent of the business package. They ask for two years in advance but offer an automatic renewal for both the site and the domain name.

To build websites I use Serif.com WebPlus8x. it's easy, especially if you also use the other softwares as they complement one another and are affordable.

If you just make an info site then the Essential or the Business package are quite sufficient.

Dont go near one&one or godaddy, I had some serious issues with them years ago. I would stay away from any non UK based providers. Also make sure you are dealing with the provider directly, not a reseller masquerading as the provider.

I recently moved my site away from bluehost as they were located in USA, as it was hurting my SEO.

Like yourself, i had no clue who to use and looked up a web hosting on trust pilot

I chose Krystal Hosting, it was a no brainer... I phoned the top 5 companies up and Krystal were super helpful so i went with them. Their support has been fantastic and the switch over was no bother at all and they were always on hand to help!

You have a few choices if you want a website, build it yourself or pay someone to do it for you.

It doesn't take that much effort to learn how to build a site these days on joomla or wordpress and you tube is a great help if you go down that road.

I built my website myself but I'm always looking at my competition and it seems to me anyway that the yell websites seem to rank very well on google (in my local area).
