Mower sabotage BEWARE!!

Hey folks, spent the last 2 weeks off with flu only to return to gardens this week to find at some point yesterday my Hayter pro (only just serviced before I went off ill) has had water poured into the oil chamber and sugar poured into the fuel chamber, can only have been done yesterday whilst on the back of my Ranger ( ironically yesterday was the last day I was to use the Ranger as it's now sold and I've switched to a more Eco friendly van). I am in the Ascot , Surrey area so please be aware if you have open backed vehicles with mowers locked on in plain view... Buggers

Possibly another company?  I wouldn't think the average idiot who goes around braking stuff would carry water and sugar around (or even think to put that in an engine)

  • I would suspect another company.

I was curious to see what happened, so I added some sugar into some petrol in a measuring cup and it just sat at the bottom. Unless you have run it probably get away with cleaning them.

If you ran with water in the oil though you could be looking at more serious damage.

Hopefully you will be able to get it all cleaned out and without any lasting damage

Nope had not run the engine luckily, I always check fuel level before I start job to make sure I don't run out half way through a cut, when I looked in I could see all the granules, so checked the oil to find a lot of water, by the amount of sugar i could see I reckon they used a whole bag, and water must be at least 1/2 a litre... Not happy..

I say sugar because it is what my machine guy says, it could be another granulated substance, but defiantly looked like sugar..
  • Not good.  Feel your pain.  I will ask around with the other guys in Ascot and Sunningdale.  I have however noticed quite a few new "companies" touting their trade in the area.

Never heard of sugar in the mowers before but round-up in the water bowsers yes.   All of this reminds me of the turf wars from a few years back when the Italians thought a lot of guys were muscling in on their patch.  Now who said Sunningdale and the surrounding areas were peaceful! :-)

I was actually over at Broomfield park in Sunningdale yesterday, it could have happened at any time during the day as I didn't actually use mower in the end yesterday although I had it on truck, defiantly a pretty ruff area Sunningdale, haha, I will find out tomorrow outcome of mower, one good thing is I didn't start it, I hope that makes a difference...
      • I think we need to have a quiet chat Harry, Broomfield Park is my area!!!:-)

Haha, oh yeah, are you sure you've never heard of people putting sugar in the fuel system???;-)
          • If it was me, I would of used drain cleaner in the engine oil and bleach in with your fuel - you have been formally warned to keep off my patch :-) But seriously by all accounts I don't think the sugar would of done any major harm and partucularly as you didn't fire her up.

  • What i want to know is how you can take 2 weeks off just for flu ;)

On a serious note I hope you get some good news tomorrow and its not going to hit your pocket anymore than I imagine you've been hit already.
