“Once an apple tree gets to 25 or 30 years old, it develops cracks in the bark,” calls down Guy from his ladder, where he’s hard at work with his scythe. “Birds land on the tree, deposit the seeds and, before long, the mistletoe starts to take hold. It can take over from the apples, and begin to kill the tree from within.”
