Landscaper sought in road rage assault

Essex police are the hunt for a man who appears to assault a cyclist after a video of the incident was posted on Youtube.

The original video - since removed - was posted to YouTube by DrMorocho shows the rider falling off after the van driver closes the gap between the vehicle and the kerb. The driver appears to take umbridge to the rider squeezing through a tiny kerbside gap to gain an advantage as the van tries to turn left behind a bin lorry.

The name of the landscaping firm, together with their telephone number, can clearly bee seen on the side of the van.

  • Plenty of idiots about these days.

On a similar subject, I also build websites as a part time income/hobby (used to be a software engineer, but prefer hard graft) and I manage my neighbours website, and online presence. He is a plasterer, and has a nicely sign written van, but had a small incident in asda car park, where someone walked out behind him while reversing (think we have all been there), and it ended up in a bit of an argument. The thing is, when you have a sign written van, you are the public image of the business, and the next thing I know I am having to deal with someone ranting all over the business facebook page and on twitter etc. My neighbour was non the wiser until I mentioned it, but the comments could have had a very bad affect on his business if I hadn't of caught them quickly.

The moral of the story: If you are driving an advert, behave yourself :)

  • Hope the kind of people who pick fights with cyclists are not LJN members!

I'd never condone the violent response of the driver.

    A couple of observations.

The cyclist appears to try and squeeze into a gap that's too small for him and his bike, especially as (if you watch the video) he has a box of about 90cm width strapped on a rack behind his saddle.

The landscape company is a member of Trustatrader

    • Absolutely. The problem with this is that every day we see dumbass driving, sometimes causing us to have to slow down, stop or even take evasive action. If we all picked fights with people who wronged us on the road then the roads would be filled with rioting drivers! Yes, we all get annoyed with bad driving/cycling, but we just have to mutter rude things to ourselves and move on.

The van should probably have held back and given the cyclist more room, but as I said above, we all make mistakes on the road.

Likewise the cyclist shouldn't have shouted "get off the phone, you muppet" at the van. We know it's an offence to be on the phone while driving, but it's up to the Police to take action against people.

So faults all round, but at the end of the day if you use your vehicle to block off a cyclist or any other road user so you can punch them then you probably have some serious anger issues!

  • From watching it a second time, someone is on big trouble with the company and the police.

I am not sure that the connect wanted to turn left, although there is a steady orange glow so unsure on that. I am a cyclist and while I dont agree with the cyclist rolling along up the inside. The reaction from the van driver is far more concerning.

it was all over Twitter last night although I don't think the company is on Twitter.

Views on what the company will do to the driver of anything?
  • trustedtrader have suspended taylor landscapes off there site haha

    The incident is inexcusable.

Unfortunately another poor landscaping company is reaping the bad media coverage from this incident and has been forced to place a disclaimer on their website stating they have no connection with this company, incident or person.

The incident relates to Taylor Landscaping (Essex) NOT Taylor Landscapes ?

We should exercise caution if referring to a 'generic' or similar named company.

I'd be mortified if I found myself in this situation, ie an innocent party !!

    • That's a shame to hear that! When I searched for them last night all
I got was the trust a trader page. They don't seem to have a web presence, or certainly not a huge one
