This one to watch. Could have implications for anyone who uses CCTV to watch over tool and/or machinery storage areas around their home.

Images captured on a household surveillance camera could breach data-protection rules if the person filmed was on a public footpath when videoed, the European court of justice (ECJ) has ruled.

"Householders who have surveillance cameras that capture public space would have to put up a notice informing people they are being filmed and make sure footage was not unduly retained, she said."

  • It's an odd one, I covered this in detail when I was in security and if you have a camera that faces on a public space wether it's an outdoor garden camera, shop camera or garage camera it needs to be declared before the footage can be used as evidence. You do also need to have a notice on the property stating cctv is in operation. This doesn't need to specify what areas are being filmed.
    Just thought I'd add that in as people can get confused by it
