    • I did Rated People for a year. It was surprisingly effective and I like the fact you could pick which jobs to app

I tried rated people and it was a waste of time for me got 2 or 3 jobs out of it but to be honest people were expecting the world for £25!!
I'm sure it works for some people and it may have helped a bit but as time goes by word of mouth and chance encounters pay off.
  • Thank you for your replies, much appreciated! Interesting to hear two people's totally different experience.

  • I use rated people but 95% of the leads are not worth looking at and half those you do purchase are a waste of time. will not bother in the future. We are with check a trade and that works brilliantly for us.

I have tried both and feel they are not really interested in improving our trade as in my area the local cowboys and gypsies are all over the sites.

I have been using Trust a trader for 3 years now it started off slow but the more reviews you get the better it gets, I pick up most of my work from there now. You can easily add photos and text to the reviews to your page.
I have also changed the text to include my local town, and this has got me on page one on Google in my local small town.

Rated people is terrible for the customer and the tradesmen, paying for a lead that is probably a dead end, is a joke. One of my customers used it and a truck full of very dodgy men turned up. It should be banned.
  • I've been using Which? Trusted Traders for the past 6 months. In truth I haven't seen loads of enquiries from it but it's not always so easy to tell where they got your number. I keep using it because the brand behind the Which? Name is very strong and I feel that it adds instant credibility when it comes to selling my brand.
  • I used rated people for a while, a few years ago now. They were great when they started, good leads, even the prices were fair. Then the cost went up, lead quality went down and I was competing against cash in hand guys using electric mowers running out of the family mondeo. Most jobs came down to price, when you're paying your tax and you're insured you can't compete!

To top it off they charged my card for a whole years membership when I'd cancelled and refused to refund me. Only when I bombarded them on Twitter did they refund me.

I'd avoid them like the plague if I were you.
