Good for you, Mike. I have maintenance customers going back 10 years and have just been planning of putting in place some sort of recognition, if only a thank you card, on big anniversaries. What do others do?
Just coming up to 10 years myself and was thinking of a card or flowers for some of my long term, loyal customers.
Have often thought about Christmas cards and things as some returning customers are now actually good friends also. When I tell the story of the second design work at this address it includes village awards for the front garden and the clients opening as part of the village open gardens scheme. Award winning (albeit small and local) is some recognition of their good work anyway.
In over 15 years of working as a freelance gardener I have made good friends with many of my clients and one builds long standing relationships which far out weigh any iffy ones! Both my husband and I both send Christmas cards thanking them for work during the year and give them dates we are away over the winter.
The second part of the design story. This time the brief was for a productive garden but at the front of a modern detached house on an established estate. Designed in 2010 (built early 2011 I think); photographs attached of before, after build and in its productive phase.
This has been a very successful garden, combining a visual attractiveness with good productivity and it has also won village awards.
I have always liked the idea of front garden veg plots. The space is never used for recreation because of lack of privacy / security. A brilliant way to use this space.
Further to this I have just been contacted by a customer whose garden I designed 19 years ago, in 1996. Planting still looks great but paving/path/seating area needs a revamp.
Also a customers from 2008 has asked me to design the garden of her new house.
