Nick, I think it's the same as our Bahia's hydrostatic gearbox in which case it's 10W40 Engine oil (although you can buy expensive "branded" oil ;).
We've just had a gearbox driveshaft oil seal go on one and the Dealer says that's the spec and what was used to top up and then used on refil when they replaced the oil seal ......
Hopefully Neal can confirm ?
Thanks Gary.
Do you think the fully synthetic 10W40 we use in our vans would be OK or would a mineral or semi-synthetic be better?
I'm a bit surprised that the etesias run on 10w 40. Like they say you learn something new everyday !!
Just to add if it's leaking topping up really is short term as I've found that any leaks on the system just get worse. You can send motors for reconditioning not cheap but cheaper than a new one!
9•4•2 HYDRAULIC OIL LEVEL
Before unscrewing the hydraulic oil cylinder, clean it carefully and make sure that no impurities get into it.
Check the hydraulic oil level before using the mower every time.
Do not fill the expansion cylinder but make sure that the oil level in it is always visible (see picture 31).
In particular when cold (normal level approximately 1 cm above the bottom of the cylinder, between minimum and maximum).
We recommend 10W40 oil cans ref. 38383 (2 liters)
Nick, not sure what woud be better? I guessing they used semi synthetic as that's the norm for mutligrade. I was surprised but have checked and 10W40 is the recommended grade in the Etesia Bahia manual.
Hi Nick I missed this so do apologise
anything like this give me a call as I hope 10w40 has not been put inside this box because its a hydraulic HV46 oil which has to be used.
we use 10w40 in the Bahia box as this not only need an oil for creating preasure in the centre piston pumps but the same oil must also lubricat all of the mechanical componants inside the case which a hydraulic oil is not brill at hence the reason we use engine grade 10w40 for Bahia & Hydro 80 machines (used to be 20w20 Bahia & 10w30 hydro 80)
regards
neal
Thanks Neal - much appreciated.
We have felt a bit let down by our local Etesia dealer as we have been asking them for oil for months and they are never returning our calls or simply saying they are out of stock! Very frustrating!
