I rarely get cheques but I still take them, TSB don't charge me anything for depositing them. Although I do tell customers I prefer a bank transfer for any payment.
I still get paid by few customers with cheques, not just old people.
Just keep taking them, we have been banking with Abbey, which then became Santander, for 15 years and never paid a penny in charges. Just pop the cheques in a pre-paid envelope - can't see the problem.
I still get them from people, not just older generation. I think some people just don't keep cash and find writing a cheque easier than logging on and paying by BACS. Do you get much uptake for credit/debit payments Robbie? I presume you have a mobile card reader?
I accept them but would rather not. I push for bank transfer because i dont get charged and it makes bank statement reconciliation easier for me.

I encourage people to pay by BACS, but most people tell me they find it a pain. Regular customers will usually pay me by BACS, but one off's and people on treatment plans tend not to.
