This image shows my Final Design Proposal for the courtyard garden of barn conversion property in Walkington, East Yorkshire. The building is set in a 7 acre landscaped site and is owned by a member of the wealthiest family in Yorkshire. The property has recently extensively refurbished to a very high standard and features a games room, lounge, kitchen, swimming pool complex, gym and childrens play room at ground level all of which look out on the central courtyard. The axis of the garden has now been re-aligned around the main french doors from the lounge and the design also works with the principle of 'The Golden Ratio' (which the courtyard dimensions just so happen to suit!). A formal sawn slate/yorkstone terrace used for dining/outdoor cooking leads to a large synthetic lawn and stepping stones lead to a further stone terrace with seating and a coffee table. To the South facing elevation is a Merbau hardwood elevated deck area with outside sofas, coffee tables and raised stone table/plinth with an integrated 'fire-pit'. The wall is to be clad with 'Flock Wallpaper' effect canvas panels to complete the feel of an 'outdoor room'. To the left of the deck is an area resrved for the placing of an imported timber play house. The planting (except the existing retained climbers/wall shrubs and the proposed planting of hundreds of Allium bulbs) is all to be artificial as requested by the Client to reduce maintenance. The courtyard garden is now to be constructed by the Client's own in-house gardener and joiner and I look forward to seeing the results of their work sometime in 2011.
