Scottish beach pebble is a favourite material of mine because of the different character it takes on depending upon the season. In the summer this entrance area to the garden will be a dusty pale grey which should illuminate the kitchen area to some degree. In the damp of winter the stones take on hues of purples, pinks and greys ensuring some tonal interest. A singular Liquidambar styraciflua rises from a block of Stachys byzantina to greet visitors and frame the view toward the patio.
