The lawns are a requirement to keep a degree of balance between soft and hard landscaping . A raised square bed at the corner of the large patio provides additional 'bum-space' for parties but also houses a bed of Helictotrichon sempervirens and a single Prunus x cistena (one of my favourites) which should confetti the black patio with pale pink petals each year to herald in a new summer.
