  • Hi Richard,

This is up at Pole Moor, up near the Jack O'Mitre pub, if that makes sense. The Marsden tunnel is probably about a mile and a half straight down the valley from here. It's a gorgeous place to work and I am going to miss it enormously when I have to leave for Surrey / London later this year. I don't think there is a single wall up there that isn't dry stone, and apparently parts of one of the walls include stones that formed the runs for the Huddersfield trams way back when... They have very unusual ruts to one side of their top faces.

*Sighs wistfully* Ah well, new beginnings and all that...
  • Is this near Wilburlea. Not sure about the spelling here. I did a lot of walling up that end years ago. I get the point about the weather! From there I went to work on Marsden Moor then Holme Moss. NEVER AGAIN!
  • Oh, I'm afraid I can't claim credit for that one Kerrie. The owners of the garden had been using an old Atco Admiral cylinder mower but had just bought a new Honda rotary mower with the rear roller. I did put them on to Greensleeves though (Green thumb have only just started to operate in my area).
  • Top man, you do cross ways mowing! It's as much as I can do to drag the mower up and down the garden, let alone cross wise too.

    Lovely location.
  • Hi Phil,

Yes, I've been working on this garden for just over a year or so now. It was a recommendation from the old garden centre where I was the plant buyer. It's about a mile and a half away from junction 23 (I think?) of the M62 between Slaithwaite (pronounced Sla-wit) and Outlane. I've not properly looked at the area on an OS map but was told that you can see as far as Saddleworth moor in one of the directions. It's a wonderful place to work but the weather can prove quite a challenge - apparently they were knee deep in snow on Easter Sunday this year! Of course that brings its own problems with the garden but I don't think I'd complain all that much if that was my garden. I just love this part of Yorkshire and wouldn't want to live anywhere else...

Is this one of your gardens Andy?

What a fantastic view and a great place to live or work.
