Advice: Fencing down Concrete Steps

Hi all,Basically, the centre of the concrete steps in the boundary line. I want to put up fencing that runs down the length of these steps and I've been quoted by two landscapers...Landscaper #1He suggested that he would cut aquares of the concrete steps to put the fence post in (and refil with concrete), and apparently using brackets could cause the steps to move over time? Landscaper #2He said to use brackets as there's alot more work (and cost) involved in cutting through the concrete, and…

Small, compact battery strimmer with variable speed trigger?

I am looking for a small, compact, lightweight strimmer that is battery powered for small garden edging - I already have a Stihl FSA60R but its just a bit to powerful and unweldy for some of the smaller, finnicky edging. The strimmer MUST have variable speed trigger (this is where my biggest problem in finding one is) so I can slow it right down when near windows etc. It must have batteries that are replaceable (not inbuilt). 1.6mm or maximum 2.0mm line diameter I dont care if its a cheapie non…

Finding work

Hi everyone After a couple of years employed as Head of Horticulture for a charity, I decided to return to self employment as a freelance gardener at the end of March. I am struggling to find clients and don't know what to do! I have a website, a My Business Google profile and have been putting advertising postcards on village notice boards over quite a wide radius of home (I'm happy to travel up to 30 minutes from home). I have signed up and been looking on Bark at people asking for help but…

How to make ends meet as a professional gardener

Hi all,I'm looking for a bit of advice really if anyone has any thoughts. I'm a mum to a young toddler so work part time and fit hours into nursery runs so for me it works well to have set regular hours at customers' gardens. Eg x2/3 hours a fortnight. The driving in between is a pain but okay and I enjoy my job. BUT, I charge £26 per hour and by the time I've taken off 35% to cover tools, PPE, holidays, weather, illness, insurance etc, and then 15% for a private pension I'm left on almost…
