  • Hi Rachael

Thanks for the kind feedback!! I use CAD for all my designs - I was never formally trained in garden design so although I wouldn't be lost at adrwaing board, I would certainly labour more than others! CAD simplifies the process allowing you to quickly play around with shapes and composition before you commit to a plan. The beauty of it is that you can price as you go to ensure you are getting near budget target.

I'm not sure it saves time in the end and the debate about the advantages of hand-drawn over CAD will never settle. It does allow you to quickly share the plans with the contractors and electricians who work on it and then afterwards you can very easily upload the images to blogs and flickr etc.

I use some low cost CAD software which is actually very powerful and suits my purposes. It will never compete with that which major architects but the aim is to impress clients with the production - and what i use works! I may have lost a contract or two in the past to hand-drawn designs but there are 'different stokes for different folks' so I'm not so fussed.

If you are keen then you should PM me and I can direct you to what I use; but I wouldn't make the transition of discipline mid-season because it can take a while to learn!

Maybe you can teach me how to use a drawing board too!!

    Cheers

    Nicky

I've been admiring your graphics from links you've posted on Twitter - how do you do them? I'm still drawing everything by hand, not the quickest approach!
