Here's a splash of colour and sunshine from my front garden in Snowdonia. Even on a gloomy day, these perky poppies manage to glow brightly. I sowed the seeds direct into the soil in May 2010, this is their second summer.

  • Under £2.00 worth of summer-long colour, every year 9hopefully). Great value for money and a bit of a show-stopper along the bridleway / lane in front - the only other orange flowering perennial round these parts is Crocosmia! I collected seeds from this patch last year and passed them round the neighbourhood. For some reason, they don't mind at all the windy, damp and cool conditions here. But then there is good drainage underneath them - I found an old spoil heap there when I was preparing the bed!
