This is "Cally Thistle" commissioned for a woodland garden near Blairgowrie, Perthshire.

I often build without any mortar, particularly with the vases. With this piece I used a small amount of mortar at the top to keep the rain out. It's more satisfying not using any mortar but sometimes a necessary evil!

...and is there a bonding glue/mortar or dry/freestyle?

Hi Philip,
Made by my own two hands! For this piece I bought some slate from the Lake District in fairly thick pieces. I slices it (rove) with a hammer and chisel then shaped each piece with a hammer.
