Snow Gum flowers up close

Each bud of the cluster has a rusty brown hat that pops of like adustbin lid that's been forced open by the contents. Then the anthersextend themselves like the tentacles of a sea anemone. The green cupat the base becomes the seed receptacle and eventually goes rock hard,waiting I believe for fire to open it and stimulate the seeds intogrowth.

    Hi Phil - that was done with a Canon 40D and the Canon 180mm Macro with available light (dingey dull day). Had the light been better the shot would have had more 'pop'. I'll repeat the shot with a consumer camera some time and there won't be much difference.
