Hi chris, after a lot of research and deliberation I decided to go with Stihl for my cordless gear. I have no doubt that Pellnec are probably better machines but I have a good relationship with my local Stihl dealer so this and price swayed my decision in the end. I also gave Ego some consideration as they have a good reputation but the lack of a long reach hedge trimmer put them out the race for me.
The first machine I wanted was a lightweight strimmer for grass work and it was a toss up between the FS85 and FS90. I went with the 85 in the end because I believed the longer battery life would be important. It is a great machine to use for borders, edging etc and battery life has not been an issue at all because the AP300 battery lasts far longer than I need for this type of work (it only seems to run out fast on full throttle which I rarely use, I have other strimmers if I need that much power). I do think the FS85 is a bit flimsy and if I had known how good the battery life is without full revs I probably would have gone for the 90.
I bought the long reach telescopic hedge trimmer a couple of weeks ago and haven't used it much yet but so far so good. Battery life seems excellent and far better than the strimmer.
Husky and Honda are probably worth a look as well, but in the end for me it's good to have the dealership nearby even though maintenance is not really as much of an issue.
Hope this helps
Jim
That must be great Gary! Rural Norfolk is a bit thin on the ground for such luxury:)
Yep, Rural Surrey has its benefits ....
However, I see you have two Etesia / Pellenc dealers within 15-20miles & 3 Ego dealers within 25miles of your location, better than were I am!
You're absolutely right Gary but all under one roof as you mentioned would be really great for discussions about direct comparisons 're performance, reliability, cost etc.
At least one of those Norfolk Dealers is multi franchised.
Well GaryI thought I knew and had visited virtually all of our machinery dealers here but I have not seen Stihl, Pellnec and Ego under one roof and a web search doesn't come up with one so I would love to know where you are telling me about.
As above, all I said was there is a dealer within the radius mentioned above that is multi franchised and stocks Stihl / Etesia / Pellenc.
Another Dealer stocks Ego.
Thanks Gary I am in a way venting frustration! There are in fact two Etesia/Pellnec dealers and they are ok for Etesia but I have yet to see them have any Pellnec machines in stock and their knowledge of them is shocking to be frank. I therefore consider myself lucky to have the knowledge of this network at my fingertips:)
