Her home boasts two roof terraces and she was keen to have them updated to reflect the interior. The terrace adjoining the living space features out-sized planters and an arbour structure which provides storage and additional seating as well as framing artwork. The existing decking is stained to give it a more contemporary appearance and the walls are painted a deep blue acting as a foil for the planters. The view from this terrace looks onto the City Road Basin of Regents Canal and so the design aims to leave the view open. The planting is architectural and low maintenance. The terrace adjoining the kitchen utilises the balustrade railing attaching multiple troughs in which herbs can be grown. These troughs also help to mask the view of a dull roof top beyond. </p><p>For further information visit <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.ironbutterflydesign.co.uk" target="_blank">ironbutterflydesign.co.uk</a></p><p> </p><p><a href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314100865?profile=original" target="_self"><img width="350" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314100865?profile=RESIZE_480x480" width="350" class="align-left"/></a></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p><a href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314098827?profile=original" target="_self"><img width="350" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314098827?profile=RESIZE_480x480" width="350" class="align-right"/></a></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p><a href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314108249?profile=original" target="_self"><img width="350" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314108249?profile=RESIZE_480x480" width="350" class="align-full"/></a></p><p> </p><p><a href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314113000?profile=original" target="_self"><img width="350" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314113000?profile=RESIZE_480x480" width="350" class="align-right"/></a></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p></div>Garden Design London: A week in the life of a London Based Garden Design and Build Company: Week 34 2011https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/garden-design-london-a-week-in-the-life-of-a-london-based-garde-22011-08-26T10:23:08.000Z2011-08-26T10:23:08.000ZKatrina Kieffer- Wellshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/KatrinaKiefferWells<div><dl class="wp-caption aligncenter" id="attachment_3602" style="width: 650px;"><dt class="wp"><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.earthdesigns.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/WOTB-wk34.jpg"><img height="452" width="640" src="http://www.earthdesigns.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/WOTB-wk34-1024x724.jpg" alt="Garden Design London: A week in the life of a London Based Garden Design and Build Company: Week 34 2011" title="Garden Design London: A week in the life of a London Based Garden Design and Build Company: Week 34 2011" class="size-large wp-image-3602"/></a></dt><dd class="wp">Garden Design London: A week in the life of a London Based Garden Design and Build Company: Week 34 2011</dd></dl><ul><li>Claire enjoyed an afternoon in Balham with a client who had an <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.earthdesigns.co.uk/">Earth Designs garden design consultation</a> voucher. We had this exciting message from one of the photographers after photographing a garden build in Kent: "Hi Claire, just to let you know that I went to Sevenoaks on Friday and had a very good time. Emma is a delightful person and couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming. I kept saying to Emma that I had thought I would photograph the garden in a couple of hours, but I found it engrossing and in the end I spent much longer and went back in the evening to do the lighting. The garden is great. There are so many viewpoints and angles and is obviously a very good way to make a small space into a kind of adventure. I love the idea that, although you can’t see the whole garden at once, there are actually no hard boundaries at all, but just some angled boards. So it retains lightness. I will send the pictures on when I have editied, but in the meantime, thank you very much. All the best, Marcus"</li><li>Work on the garden build Willesden Green has been slowed due to the wet weather, however the decking is near complete. </li><li>Katrina had a garden design consultation in W1 for a <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.earthdesigns.co.uk/blog/generalchitchat/roof-garden-east-london">roof terrace</a> amongst other things the merits of <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.primrose.co.uk/planters-c-2.html?src=directory">fibreglass containers</a> were discussed, lightweight and available in a plethora of shapes, sizes and colours they are a great choice for a roof terrace. </li><li>Katrina is getting ready for her trip to Norway where she will have an detailed creative consultations with the owners of a rural retreat.</li></ul></div>Garden Design London: A week in the life of a London Based Garden Design and Build Company: Week 32 2011https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/garden-design-london-a-week-in-the-life-of-a-london-based-garden2011-08-12T10:17:52.000Z2011-08-12T10:17:52.000ZKatrina Kieffer- Wellshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/KatrinaKiefferWells<div><p><a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314142109?profile=original"><img width="750" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314142109?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024" class="align-center"/></a></p><p> </p><ul><li>In December 2010 <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.earthdesigns.co.uk/">Earth Designs</a> carried out a garden postal design for a client in Wales. The building was listed and the design was for a <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.earthdesigns.co.uk/html/funky-roof-terrace-garden-design-river-thames-east-london.html">roof terrace</a>, however not any ordinary roof garden. The architects had designed a carport the roof to which could double as a terrace. The terrace would be partly visible from the other side of a quay wall as so should incorporate planting to minimise any impact it may have on the views from the other side of the quay wall. The client has recently contacted us again with regards to designing a garden around the ground floor of the property.</li><li>Work continues on gathering content for the new website gardensbypost.com which will replace <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.gardenpresents.co.uk/">gardenpresents.co.uk</a> here details of Earth Designs garden design consultations and postal garden designs can be found.</li><li>Work continues for the hard landscaping team in Willesden Green, creating a terraced garden.</li><li>The final touches are given to Earth Designs London garden design and build in <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.earthdesigns.co.uk/blog/generalchitchat/london-garden-design-wanstead-garden-of-light-and-movement">Wanstead</a>. Due to privacy issues their large terrace is underused and the clients wish to make more of this outdoor space. The terrace shares a boundary with a communal area, which is accessed via the clients terrace - however the other residents of the complex do not have right of access via the clients roof terrace. Whilst the view is vast, it is not particularly spectacular, with views of two other apartment blocks to the right and rear of the terrace.</p><p><a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314190751?profile=original"><img height="703" width="401" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314190751?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024" class="align-full"/></a></p><p> </p><p><a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314186900?profile=original"><img width="750" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314186900?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024" class="align-full"/></a></p><p><a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314187348?profile=original"><img width="750" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314187348?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024" class="align-full"/></a></p><p> </p><p><strong>Solution</strong></p><p>The design divides the space into smaller areas, using planters, of various sizes, materials and shapes, to create the divisions. There are three distinct areas to the terrace. The first contains a large raised bed constructed from red cedar decking and timber, bounded on 2 sides with a Perspex and wooden slatted screen to help with privacy and protect from the wind. The client also has the option of adding a shade sail and large mattress cushions at a later stage should they so choose.</p><p>In the bottom south corner of the terrace, demarcated with three large stainless steel planters containing elegant ‘<i>betula nigra’</i>, is a small bench to look out over the best view, in relative privacy.</p><p>To the right hand side of the south boundary will be a bespoke dining 'pod'. Constructed from red cedar decking, the rectangular structure will benefit from a half clad perspex roof and timber cladding to one side to provide privacy and shelter from the wind. This structure will accomodate the client's existing table and chairs.</p><p><a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314192136?profile=original"><img width="750" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314192136?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024" class="align-full"/></a></p><p>Flooring in the space takes the form of a large elliptical artificial lawn surrounded by black granuflex rubber tiles.</p><p>The rest of the space will be finished with these a vartiety of pots, with a colour scheme of orange, cerise pink and burgundy red. The existing blue boundary walls will be painted aubergine to compliment colour of the apartment building.</p><p><a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314195167?profile=original"><img width="750" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314195167?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024" class="align-full"/></a></p><p> </p><p><a target="_self" href="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314187478?profile=original"><img width="750" src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314187478?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024" class="align-full"/></a></p></div>Mediterranean Terrace with Steel Pergolahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/mediterranean-terrace-with2010-08-08T09:00:00.000Z2010-08-08T09:00:00.000ZSteve Barkerhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/SteveBarker<div><p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314120127?profile=original" alt=""/></p>A new project submission has been made to <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.garden-design-pictures.com">www.garden-design-pictures.com</a> and the pictures can be viewed here: <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.garden-design-pictures.com/mediterranean-terrace-proj-congsg001.html">http://www.garden-design-pictures.com/mediterranean-terrace-proj-congsg001.html</a>If you are a Garden Designer or Landscape Gardener you can claim your free advertisement and link to your website by emailing steve@garden-design-pictures.com and requesting more information.</div>A terraced garden in Ashbourne, Derbyshirehttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/a-terraced-garden-in-ashbourne2010-07-06T23:08:20.000Z2010-07-06T23:08:20.000ZKeith Barkerhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/KeithBarker<div><p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314106397?profile=original" alt="© Lush Landscape and Garden Design Ltd 2010"/></p>Our latest garden, finished yesterday, was a challenge - taming an 18% uphill slope to provide a family garden with lawn, planting, seating area and greenhouse space.<p style="text-align: left;"><img src="http://storage.ning.com/topology/rest/1.0/file/get/3314105167?profile=original" alt="© Lush Landscape and Garden Design Ltd 2010"/></p>Not only did we manage it, but I got to dust off my Sketchup skills to wow the client with (and they really did say 'Wow!').Further details are on <a rel="nofollow" href="http://lushgardendesign.co.uk/terraced-sloping-garden" target="_blank">our website</a>.</div>
