This was followed by a presentation from Patrick Hulbert of Bowls International magazine, and a former international player, on what players want from their bowling green. Patrick then gave attendees an update of Bowls England, the sport’s governing body.

The morning session was concluded by an ‘on the green’ demonstration of the bowling green maintenance equipment from both Dennis and SISIS focusing on the benefits scarification, aeration, verticutting, brushing and cutting bring to a green.

After lunch, Matt Gresty from Limagrain discussed choosing the correct grass seed for a bowling green along with spring maintenance and how to control weeds and moss before Alan Ronaldson from Dennis and SISIS gave an in-depth presentation on mower maintenance, service intervals, and tell-tale signs of neglect & what to look out for.

The day finished with the infamous ‘turf clinic’ question and answer session.
"We had some very positive feedback from attendees, who said that they found the day informative and interesting,” commented Ewen Wilson. “We have a strong track record of hosting these educational seminars and we are looking forward to hosting further seminars for greenkeepers and groundsmen in later in the year.”

Mr Blacklock from North Tyneside local authority said: "I've found the day to be very useful and informative with excellent presentations and worthwhile attending. I do not have a lot of experience in this field and have recently started some courses on turf maintenance. The seminar was not overwhelming and it was pitched at the correct level.”

Further educational seminars will be planned throughout 2014. Visitors to the show not only came from the US but also further afield from Europe, Asia and South America who were all looking at the latest technology available.

Paul Copsey, group courses manager at Crown Golf commented: “It was a fantastic trip from start to finish. Not just going to the show, but also the education. The whole experience and hospitality we received from Sherriff Amenity and Everris was absolutely brilliant.”

Ed Carter, sales and development manager for Everris said: “Everris firmly believe that with customer expectation increasing all the time it is crucial that suppliers and turf managers alike benefit from the insight GIS offers. This year’s trip was extremely beneficial for all involved not only as a result of GIS but also the education and understanding that came through additional learning afforded by a wider agenda that included course walks and a further seminar program.

The whole week saw the group involved in discussion and debate and I’m sure everybody learned something new which could be taken back to the UK and considered for use on their own sites. Everris and Sherriff Amenity were hugely impressed with the quality and professionalism of the group which represented many of the UK’s leading resort golf groups and it’s safe to say that many friendships were made along the way which will no doubt benefit working relationships in 2014 and beyond.”

Mark Pyrah, Amenity Director at Sherriff Amenity said: “We continue to add value through education and fully support communication across the industry. The trip to the GIS was a golden opportunity to further develop our working relationship with some of the key golf groups in the UK and was very successful.”

Martin Guy, Owner of MG Developments added: “It was a relaxed atmosphere from the time we met up at the airport until we returned back to the UK. The opportunity to be with a group of like-minded people from clubs around the UK and to be able to discuss different issues was invaluable.”

For further information, please contact Sherriff Amenity on 01638 721 888 or visit www.sherriffamenity.com

For more news and insightful views, you can follow Sherriff Amenity on Twitter @SherriffAmenity

Sherriff Amenity Continues its Education Programme at BTMEhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/sherriff-amenity-continues-its-education-programme-at-btme2014-01-08T11:30:00.000Z2014-01-08T11:30:00.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

Sherriff Amenity, one of the UK’s leading turf care and sports equipment suppliers, has confirmed that it will once again be holding the BASIS Foundation Award in Amenity and Horticulture at BTME 2014.

Following the success of the 2013 award, which saw a 100% pass rate for the candidates, Sherriff Amenity felt it was important to continue to raise the knowledge of pesticides among professional users.

With support from Bayer and Everris, candidates from golf clubs and other landscape and amenity organisations will take part in a three-day course conducted by the STRI’s Head of Research Dr Ruth Mann with the final exam being sat in Harrogate during the exhibition.

“We see this as a practical way of promoting a professional understanding of pesticides,” said Sherriff Amenity’s Marketing Manager Kevin Whitby. “We feel that it is important to support education within the industry as well as also helping to support education at the show.”

The Foundation Award is one of many recognised qualifications that BASIS offers those working in turf and other land-based professions.

As well as supporting the education programme, a Bowdry surface water removal machine will be up for grabs for one lucky winner. Designed specifically to efficiently and effectively remove standing water from any surface ensures sporting fixtures can continue when under normal conditions, standing water would prevent play. The Bowdry collects up to 60 litres of water per minute and, due to its ergonomic design, is simple to operate, transport and store.

Staff from Sherriff Amenity will be out in force on stand B34 with their range of fertilisers, chemicals, grass seed, dressings, sprayers and golf course equipment. Also being officially launched at the show will be the company’s re-designed website and brand new ordering portal - all of which means that the stand will be a ‘must-visit’ for any greenkeeper, course manager or turf professional attending the show.

For further information, please contact Sherriff Amenity on 01638 721 888 or email info@sherriff-amenity.com

For more news and insightful views, you can follow Sherriff Amenity on Twitter @SherriffAmenity.

CWC Gives Celtic Manor Total Solution Programmehttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/cwc-gives-celtic-manor-total-solution-programme2013-04-02T13:19:01.000Z2013-04-02T13:19:01.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

Specialist weed control contractor Complete Weed Control has brought its technical expertise into play to ensure that the Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales is always in pristine condition - and continues to flourish with a long-term maintenance programme.

Director of Golf Courses & Estate Management James McKenzie MBE is convinced the fantastic-looking resort is in no small way due to the high standard of work and service provided by Complete Weed Control (South Wales).

Following a positive testimonial from a greenkeeper at a nearby golf course, CWC has been working with James for almost twenty years having first been brought in on a short term basis to combat problem weeds during the construction of the Roman Road Course in 1994.

Since then, CWC have become a regular visitor to the resort with work including moss control, weed control, disease management and last minute cosmetic spraying applications as well as emergency works, ensuring that the course greens and fairways look their best at all times.

“Complete Weed Control are experts in their field and we see them as an extension to our in-house team,” explains James. “Visitor experience is very important. We need to ensure that the three courses are open all-year-round, which is why it’s important that Alan and his team are flexible and can come in either early morning before our visitors arrive or late evening – something that is only possible by working with a local company.”

A major innovation in recent years has been the introduction of new technology to apply pesticides more accurately as part of a continuing drive to apply fewer quantities and conform to the EU sustainable use directive (SUD).

“The technology of weed control and spraying applications is quite sophisticated these days, and CWC is widely recognised as the number one contractor in the industry. They put a lot into research and development and really look after us. What we receive from them is a total solution, not just spraying, but a scientific approach and the best expert advice for the future. It's very cost-effective too, and we receive excellent value for money."

The CWC team know all three courses intimately – something James appreciates. “It can take years to train someone to know the sites as well as Alan and his team do. They work out of sight which lets our visitors enjoy their day. It’s been known for Alan to be working as early as 4am and as late as 10pm – I really couldn’t recommend Alan and his team highly enough.”

You can view a video of what Director of Golf Courses & Estate Management James McKenzie MBE think about Complete Weed Control by clicking here.

For more information, please contact Complete Weed Control’s National office on 01325 324 277 or visit www.completeweedcontrol.co.uk.
