However, the less busy months are still an important period and well-planned winter care can help to alleviate the pressure of the season to come.

Weed control in the autumn and winter months gives us all the opportunity to break the weed cycle and to use different active ingredients, all-important in the struggle against resistance development. During the busy period it is easy for weeds to establish in areas such as; fence lines, boundaries, around buildings and structures, non-cropped areas as well as around trees and shrubs and in flower beds. If these areas have been kept weed free during the peak period, a few warm October days can soon see rise to new weed seedlings. ProGreen can supply and advise on a range of total, residual weed killers that are ideal for controlling existing weeds through the winter and into the spring.

Kerb Granules

The go to winter residual for many ground care professionals. Kerb Granules are most effective in the cool soils of autumn and winter, easy to apply with the applicator provided and long lasting. These granules control a wide range of grasses and broad-leaved weeds. They will kill grasses at almost any stage of development, small weeds and prevent new weeds germinating. Kerb Granules are also safe to apply around established trees, shrubs and hedgerows keeping competition from weeds low and flowerbeds weed free. A full list of tolerant species can be found on the product label.

NB: The current registration of Kerb Granules is soon to expire. This winter may be the last opportunity to purchase your supply so stock up now before they are gone!

Propyz 1L

The same active ingredient as Kerb Granules with the all the same benefits, just applied as a liquid spray. Ideal for contractors treating private gardens, smaller plant nurseries and smallholdings. Treats up to 2350m2 per bottle.

Kerb Flo 5L

As Propyz but in a larger pack size. Has an on label approval for application during frost but should not be applied where the conditions increase the risk of surface run off.

Depending on your location, the above products are best applied between the 1st of October and the 31st of January. Please see the product label for specific restrictions.

For further information on our products, please get in touch with us via our website www.progreen.co.uk or via our advice line on 01778 394052.

NEW Kurtail Gold herbicide is a winnerhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/new-kurtail-gold-herbicide-is-a-winner2016-03-12T08:33:35.000Z2016-03-12T08:33:35.000ZLandscape Juicehttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/LandscapeJuice

[SPONSORED]

It is not very often that product withdrawal brings an even better replacement in its wake, offering great value for money and much wider areas of use than previous incarnations, however this can definitely be said of new Kurtail Gold (150g/L glufosinate ammonium). Kurtail Gold comes as the replacement to the already highly rated, market leading herbicide Kurtail, which established itself not just as an effective total weedkiller but also as a solution to controlling the notoriously difficult to treat weed marestail/horsetail.

It expands on the success of Kurtail by introducing a 2 litre bottle size especially for contractors and even more areas of approval. It now not only gives strong weed control but has a wider approval for use on; hard surfaces, natural surfaces such as gravel, along fence lines and even for line marking on amenity turf (eg: sports pitches). The fact that Kurtail Gold can be used to control weeds on hard surfaces also makes it a highly cost effective, versatile product that can be used as an alternative to glyphosate-based products. Treatment choices for contractors have increased for once.

If you are looking to treat weeds with a knapsack spraying unit on a lawn using a selective herbicide then you will need to obtain a a Pa6 module which relates to a pedestrian applicator. There are a series of different NPTC modules depending on your desired method of application and you will even need training if using an aerial methods such as a plane or helicopter. Having a competence certificate does not make anyone immune from getting it wrong but the theory is, if you have received training, you will not have to endure the pain that the Greenkeeper of Haywards Heath golf Club is feeling at the moment after apparently not reading the product label and applying total weed killer instead of selective herbicide to his fairways.
