Cutting and collecting is directly comparable to the petrol version. An optional power converter is also available to power any 220V electric tool below 1000W.

The VTE model of the Bahia electric family is a true multifunctional vehicle that is compact, silent and environmentally-friendly. It offers a professional and original solution for all of your maintenance, work and transport needs throughout the year. It is ideal for movement, towing and working in enclosed spaces where compactness, manoeuvrability, low noise and absence of pollutant emissions are important.

The wheel barrow is a new revolutionary 100% electric wheel barrow, which is available with a range of attachments to tackle a wide variety of jobs. Power comes from a 24V 1000W battery with two forward and two reverse speeds up to 6kp/h which can transport heavy material in the skip section and water or liquid material in the tank section, be used as a raised work bench by folding down the side panels, or transport tools in the tool rack and be used to tip waste material.

The range of four robotic ETmowers, which are available in 44cm, 65cm and 105cm cutting widths cut from 5,000m² up to 20,000m². Robot mowers mow grass areas perfectly without any human intervention and reduce the cost of lawn maintenance considerably, not only in terms of labour and maintenance costs, but also by cutting your energy bill. Mulch mowing is 100% natural: it does away with the need to gather up, store and dispose of the cuttings, it fertilises the soil, and it helps the lawn to stand up to drought conditions.

Pellenc tools can now be seen in every major UK city, as well as the majority of national trust sites around the country. “Most councils and contractors are looking more closely at the lifetime cost of their machinery and not just the initial purchasing cost. Our product is not the cheapest to buy, but if you consider lifetime cost, repairs, maintenance and downtime, the value is there for all to see".

In the last five years, Pellenc has gained market recognition by offering a unique range of ‘zero emission’ battery-powered handheld tools, thanks to the development of Lithium-ion ultra-high performance batteries. This technology, which is exclusive to Pellenc, allows for a drastic reduction in the production of greenhouse gases and noise pollution. It is also comfortable for users, meets new sustainable development demands and offers excellent economic profitability. All tools now come with a comprehensive three year warranty.

A range of petrol and diesel Etesia pedestrian and ride-on machines can also be seen by visiting RT Machinery, an Etesia approved dealer, on stand D45.

For further information, please contact Etesia UK on 01295 680120 or visit www.etesia.co.uk

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Etesia UK on Twitter @EtesiaUK and like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/EtesiaUK. The new machines, supplied and supported by local dealer Radmore and Tucker are already showing significant savings in fuel expenditure and also considerable environmental advantages.

Selected following thorough examination by council supervisors and staff of the different options available to them, the Pellenc products chosen consist of a Excelion grass strimmer, Helion hedgecutter and Airion leaf blower – all powered by the 700P back-pack battery.

The Green Technology™ products, distributed in the UK exclusively by Etesia UK, will be used across the region and at the District Council’s head office at Follarton House to help maintain public parks and open spaces close to office buildings.

“We only have to pay for electricity to charge the battery, so the fuel costs are next to zero and the range is greater compared to petrol so even before we do our analysis at the end of the season we know that our fuel efficiency is much better. Equally important, of course, is the reduction in our carbon footprint,” said David Burkes, charge hand gardener for South Hams District Council.

Following the grounds care team’s visit to IOG SALTEX, they decided that it was the ‘product of the show’ and they organised a demonstration so that they could test the equipment in their own settings.

“The reasons that we opted for the Pellenc products are simple; we have a lot of offices staff in Follarton House as well as hosting weddings and other functions there. Any equipment we use needs to be quiet to operate as we don’t want to disrupt the office staff or intrude on any visitors – something we just couldn’t do with petrol-powered equipment.

For grounds maintenance tasks close to buildings, David particularly likes the four-speed selector on the Excelion grass strimmer: “I like the fact that you are able to work at variable speeds. If I am close to a building, I can use the low setting for low noise and then speed it up when I am further away for a quicker cut.”

In the last five years, Pellenc has gained market recognition by offering a unique range of ‘zero emission’ battery-powered handheld tools, thanks to the development of Lithium-ion ultra-high performance batteries. It is also comfortable for users, meets new sustainable development demands and offers excellent economic profitability.

“The Pellenc tools have been very reliable and the battery lasts for a whole day of working without a problem. I would recommend Pellenc and have done to others as I’ve been so impressed.”

For further information, please contact Etesia UK on 01295 680120 or visit the company’s new website www.etesia.co.uk

RHS Wisely Go Green with Pellenchttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/rhs-wisely-go-green-with-pellenc2013-07-17T10:14:23.000Z2013-07-17T10:14:23.000ZEtesia UKhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/EtesiaUK

RHS Wisley has purchased a range of environmentally-friendly battery-powered Pellenc equipment to keep tree & hedge cover along with grass clippings & debris in check, quietly and without fumes.

Wisley - the flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), one of the world's leading horticultural organisations and now operates a fleet of Pellenc Helion hedgecutters and Airion blowers to help maintain its 360 acre estate. Peter says the usability and functionality of the Pellenc products along with low noise and vibration levels, together with equipment reliability and ease of servicing are some of the key reasons why he has chosen Pellenc.

“They are extremely lightweight with low noise and vibration levels,” said Peter. “When the estates team first saw Pellenc, some staff members were sceptical as they felt that battery-powered equipment wouldn’t be able to do as a good of a job as the petrol-powered equipment, but as soon as they started to use it, they were so impressed with the power that they now return to it first time.”

Peter was introduced to Pellenc two years ago by Surrey Power, his local dealer. Prior to purchasing any new machine, he always undertakes a lot of research, reading up on the latest reviews and talking to other end-users. Being the RHS, he also wanted to reduce their emissions and noise levels for visitors. He discovered that Pellenc’s outstanding features and performance absolutely blew the competition away.

“We are open 364 days-a-year and wanted to reduce the amount of noise for our visitors. We also wanted to reduce the noise and vibration levels for the operatives using the equipment. We have a large amount of student volunteers so I wanted to ensure that the equipment we gave them was lightweight. Pellenc ticks all of the correct boxes.”

In the last five years, Pellenc has gained market recognition by offering a unique range of ‘zero emission’ battery-powered handheld tools, thanks to the development of Lithium-ion ultra-high performance batteries. This exclusive Pellenc technology allows for a drastic reduction in the production of greenhouse gases and noise pollution. It is also comfortable for users, meets new sustainable development demands and offers excellent economic profitability.

“The products are very well engineered and are extremely low maintenance with their brushless motors – another reason for the purchase,” adds Peter.

Pellenc is exclusively distributed in the UK by Etesia UK.
Green Infrastructure is a tried and tested tool that uses nature to provide ecological, economic and social benefits.

Instead of building flood protection infrastructure, for example, a green infrastructure solution would be to allow a natural wetland to absorb the excess water from heavy rain.

Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik said: "Building green infrastructure is often a good investment for nature, for the economy and for jobs.

"We should provide society with solutions that work with nature instead of against it, where that makes economic and environmental sense."

Green infrastructure is often cheaper and more durable than alternatives provided through conventional civil engineering. Biodiversity-rich parks, green spaces and fresh air corridors can for example mitigate the negative effects of summer heat waves.

In addition to the health and environmental benefits, green infrastructure also brings multiple social benefits: it creates jobs and makes cities more appealing places to live and work. And it allows for wildlife to thrive, even in an urban context.

The strategy will focus on:

- Promoting green infrastructure in the main policy areas such as agriculture, forestry, nature, water, marine and fisheries, regional and cohesion policy, climate change mitigation and adaptation, transport, energy, disaster prevention and land use policies. By the end of 2013, the Commission will develop guidance to show how green infrastructure can be integrated into the implementation of these policies from 2014 to 2020.

- Improving research and data, strengthening the knowledge base and promoting innovative technologies that support green infrastructure.

- Improving access to finance for green infrastructure projects – the Commission will set up an EU financing facility by 2014 together with the European Investment Bank to support green infrastructure projects

- Supporting EU-level GI projects – by the end of 2015, the Commission will carry out a study to assess the opportunities for developing an EU-wide network of green infrastructure.

By the end of 2017, the Commission will review progress on developing Green Infrastructure and publish a report on the lessons learnt together with recommendations for future action.

insulation - eg loft or cavity wall insulation

heating

draught-proofing

double glazing

renewable energy technologies - eg solar panels or wind turbines

In late 2012, Peter along with club member Stephanie Johnson and Danny Ramirez from the local golf course, who look after the three bowling greens at the club, spoke with Joe Regan of nearby Laguna Beach Bowls Club. Joe had recently purchased a SISIS Rotorake MK5 and was raving about the playing characteristics of the green.

“We were looking to upgrade our maintenance machinery,” explained Peter, “Our old mower was nearly 30 years old so we spoke with Joe and extensively searched the internet for the best mower on the market. We were particularly interested in purchasing a mower which could also accommodate turf maintenance cassettes, which would give us one machine to carry out a range of tasks. The Dennis FT610 looked to be such a good quality mower.”

The Dennis FT610 professional mower, fitted with the innovative interchangeable cassette system is unrivalled as a mower and turf maintenance machine on all areas of fine turf. A cutting width of 24” and a range of 11 interchangeable cassettes mean that one machine can be used for several different jobs from de-thatching, verticutting or brushing.

The machine was sold by CS Trading, the USA distributors of Dennis Mowers. The prompt response to every email & telephone conversation with Ian Camp and his team convinced Long Beach Lawns Bowls Club that the product would be very well supported, taking away the fear of being the first user in America.

"When we researched the Dennis FT610 the mower came out on top of the operators' evaluations for ease of use, robustness and manoeuvrability. We were immediately impressed with the ease of swapping cassettes, giving a versatile machine that could improve the quality of our bowls green. Rather than having to manoeuvre several heavy machines around, our greenkeeping needs could be met with just one machine.”

Long Beach Lawns Bowls Club has a well-earned reputation for presenting the sport of lawn bowls to hundreds of people and for producing national champions. The club has been used by both divisional and national organizations for international and national competitions.

“It’s a great product and we get great support from CS Trading. I would highly recommend the Dennis FT610 to anyone looking after a bowling green.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact CS Trading on (864) 843 5972or visit www.dennisuk.com.

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Dennis on Twitter @DennisMowers and like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/DennisMowersUK. The finish they provide and their sturdiness and handling have impressed him from day one.

Andy has been a greenkeeper for over 30 years and by instinct prefers to cut fine turf by hand. He has always believed it is better to hand cut tees and greens, especially when conditions are softer, as they have been in this longest of winters just passed. He says for him minimising compaction is essential for good quality tees and consistent greens and his two Dennis mowers have really come into their own this spring, particularly his 20-inch cut FT510 powered by a Honda 5.5hp petrol engine.

A choice of up to 11 different cassettes including scarifiers, verticutters, brushes, spikers and slitters as well as 5 or 10 bladed cutting cylinders make it more than just a fine turf mower. It offers total fine turf care in a single unit, with a 25 second changeover of cassettes, which is a huge benefit to Andy.

Snow lingered on parts of the Brailsford course into late March, and even though they were then clear of it the tees and greens were much softer than usual. By fitting a sorrel roller cassette to the FT510 Andy aided aeration significantly and brought the ryegrass & fescue tees and fescue & annual meadow grass greens on a treat.

Regular spiking is part of the routine that Andy finds works well and his Dennis FT510 means he can do it using a single machine. At other times by attaching a scarifier cassette he gets the same benefit. “One machine for all my fine turf jobs. What could be better?” says Andy.

Now the growing season is at last here and cutting is the priority, it’s the simple hand adjustment of height in increments of 0.25mm on both his 22-inch cut Dennis Razor Ultra and FT510 that is a big bonus for Andy.

“I only have one assistant to help me keep the course in trim, so avoiding downtime for tool adjustment saves us a lot of time, letting us concentrate on the job in hand – producing a really fine finish on the tees and greens”. On the Razor Ultra, which will cut down to 1.5mm, Andy has the added benefit of a tungsten-tipped groomer to keep green speeds as he wants them by trimming lateral growth.

Servicing the Dennis mowers is minimal and straightforward. Andy says he does most of it himself, with the exception of annual blade grinding which is done at the nearby Dennis factory. “Nothing is too much trouble,” says Andy. “Dennis is one of those companies where you can rely on the strength and quality of the machines they make and the great service they provide.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact Dennis 01332 824 777 or visit www.dennisuk.com

What is the best product to use to control weeds in my lawn or grassed area?https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/what-is-the-best-product-to-use-to-control-weeds-in-my-lawn-or2013-03-20T09:53:45.000Z2013-03-20T09:53:45.000ZAdam Pilgrimhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/AdamPilgrim

Many people experience the frustration of having their lawn invaded by weeds, there may be just one dandelion to start with, but let it flower and seed and there will soon be a hundred!

So what can be done about this?

Firstly do NOT make the mistake that many people do and think 'I'll dribble some Roundup on that....' - works a treat at killing the weed but also kills the grass meaning you end up with lots of little dead patches in the lawn where the weeds used to be. Looks even worse than the weeds did and takes AGES for the grass to grow back.

Secondly, we wouldn't recommend the use of a 3 in 1 product such as weed, feed and mosskiller. Firstly these products actually complicate the task as you are effectively feeding the weed that you are trying to kill as it has just received a lovely dose of fertiliser to make to grow, also we have yet to find one that give effective results on all lawn weeds, in fact white clover often seems to grow better after these products have been applied!

You could dig them all out by hand, but this can be difficult and very, very time consuming, especially if you have a large lawn.
Also remember that any small piece of weed root left, especially those of dandelions - WILL grow back....

So what does this leave us with?

SELECTIVE LAWN WEEDKILLERS - these products actively kill lawn weeds but don't affect the grass in the same way that Roundup or other gyphosphate based weedkillers do.

Verdone is possibly the best known of the liquid lawn weedkillers and can be bought from the garden centre as can Vitax Lawn Clear - many of you may have tried these products in the past and had differing or poor results. They can also be time consuming and fiddly to apply needing a watering can with a fine rose and a LOT of trips backwards and forwards to the tap to refill it, as well as the time spent measuring out the area, avoiding overlaps and most frustratingly running out of concentrate just a few metres short of the end of the lawn - which invariably seems to be the patch where most weeds are!...

So what other options are there?

Talk to your local, independent lawn maintenance professional!

Due to licensing restrictions homeowners are simply not allowed to buy many of the most powerful and hence effective, lawn weed killing chemicals.

Whereas there are only a handful of relatively expensive products available to homeowners, professional users have access to a wide variety of different products, most of which are much, much stronger than can be bought in the garden centre.

ANP Services Spalding are NPTC qualified for application of selective herbicides (the full title for lawn weedkillers) via knapsack sprayer and we will be able to assess whether your lawn needs spot treating for small areas of weeds or needs fully 'blanket spraying' for total coverage.

We can quickly and effectively cover large areas with our 1 metre spray per pass spray width coupled to our 20 litre capacity Cooper Pegler knapsack sprayer and careful use of a spray head shield where necessary means that your prized border plants will not be affected by spray drift.

We offer free no obligation quotations on this service and can also provide all year round care for your lawn, including regular professional mowing, fertilising, moss control and scarifying.

As with most independent lawn care professionals, there is no pressure with us to 'sign up' to a full year round package, we won't sell you things that you don't actually need and we will carry out all treatments at the seasonally correct time.

If you would like a quote to professionally treat your lawn or grassed area for weeds and you are within our coverage area, feel free to contact us:

Office - 01775 830250 - Mobile - 07745 247488

Email - info@lawncarespalding.co.uk

Website - www.anpservicesspalding.com

Etesia UK Appoints Three New Dealershipshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/etesia-uk-appoints-three-new-dealerships2013-02-14T14:33:32.000Z2013-02-14T14:33:32.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

Etesia UK is pleased to announce the appointment of three new dealerships, covering Norfolk & Suffolk, North Oxfordshire & Warwickshire borders and Worcester & Hereford.

Ron Smith and Company, with depots in Worcester and Hereford is a family run business with over 40 years of experience and has grown to become one of the largest garden machinery retailers in the UK. The company will be responsible for both Etesia and Pellenc products within their allocated areas.

“We needed a high quality, commercial range of mowers to add to our existing product range,” said Mark Smith, Director at Ron Smith and Company. “There is a definite trend at the moment with our customers wanting better equipment, which while the initial investment may be larger, the overall lifetime cost is low due to better reliability and fewer breakdowns. We’ve also seen a large amount of customers looking at environmentally friendly options and the Pellenc products sit perfectly with what people are wanting.”

New Norfolk and Suffolk dealer for both Etesia and Pellenc products is Bartram Mowers. Operating from two sites, one in Norwich and one in Ipswich, both sites have showrooms, spare parts departments, and fully equipped workshops, which also have service vans that carry out on site repairs ensuring that all customers can rely on Bartram Mowers’ excellent customer support. The service team has an in-depth experience of maintaining both domestic and commercial machinery and regularly attend manufacturer’s courses to keep up to date with new machinery. The company was awarded the Royal Warrant in 1978 for supplying machinery to Sandringham and has held it ever since.

“Etesia Products have such a good reputation for being able to do exactly what you say they can do,” said Adrian Kersey, Bartram Mower’s Branch Manager. “They are probably the best professional mowers on the market at being able to cut and collect in one pass and we see them being sold to our vast range of customers including local authorities, landscape contractors, schools and colleges.

“Pellenc is something new to us, but we are very excited to be able to show our customers a revolutionary and environmentally friendly range of products. We’re looking to expand our customer base and Pellenc sits perfectly with this.”

Finally, New Etesia and Pellenc dealer for North Oxfordshire and Warwickshire borders is FN Pile and sons. Recognised as one of the leading suppliers of garden and grounds care machinery in the area, FN Pile is known for the high levels of pre- and after-sales support it provides to customers of both new and pre-owned machinery. This support includes expert purchase advice and assistance and comprehensive service and repair facilities.

“We have been selling the usual brands of garden machinery for some time and decided to move into something more professional, for our more demanding customers,” said Managing Director Frank Pile. “After a lot of looking around we found the answer was on our doorstep, just 3 miles away. The people at Etesia were helpful and gave us guidance as to what we were looking for, so as to satisfy our customer’s needs. We were looking for a ride-on mower with a diesel engine with a good build quality, strong, reliable and have good back up. The main selling point with Pellenc machines is the way in which they appeal to the commercial customer who is becoming concerned at the rocketing price of petrol and the hassle involved in purchasing and storing petrol in cans. Etesia and Pellenc ticked all the right boxes for us.”

Les Malin, Etesia UK General Manager, said: “I am delighted to welcome the three new dealers into our network. All companies have a wealth of experience in the groundscare industry and will maintain the standards of excellence that our customers expect.”

For further information, please contact Etesia UK on 01295 680 120 or visit www.etesia.co.uk. We have created gardens on roofs which were literally a few pots gathered together and some climbers attached to the walls with wire. The main aim is to use the space that will most likely have some sun through the day to it's full potential rather than just another spot to sunbathe. Of course you have to be careful of weight limitations but other than that you can pretty much do the same above ground as you can at ground level, the only difference is that you often have a more preferable, sheltered growing space that will help some plants thrive that might not on the ground.

I've seen anything from herbs growing on windowsills to huge allotments with extremely efficient community garden projects producing a whole streets fruit and vegetables and with the huge growth in population using this space couldn't be more beneficial. It's said that in the U.S alone there have been just under 30 million residents added to the census since 2000 and this, although it has been slowed in recent years is a taste of things to come.

There are so many solutions to growing in small spaces in systems like aquaponics, aeroponics, hydroponics and so on but there is still a need to use electricity. To stay off the grid and be as self sufficient as possible I would always recommend using natural light and heat and capitalise on any outdoor space you have so we always advise roof gardens.

To check out inventive ways of using your roof look into vertical gardening with innovative solutions like green walls, green roofs and canvas hanging baskets which all allow water to be recycled and held for a much longer period.

Concrete to Green Space using Lattice & Flower Beds for Plantshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/concrete-to-green-space-using2011-03-17T16:12:57.000Z2011-03-17T16:12:57.000ZSteve Barkerhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/SteveBarker
A new project submission has been made to www.garden-design-pictures.com and the pictures can be viewed by clicking ConcreteIf you are a Garden Designer or Landscape Gardener you can claim your free advertisement and link to your website by emailing steve@garden-design-pictures.com and requesting more information.
Lanarkshires largest Landscape/Driveway Centre Open Seven Days at Briarlea Landscapes and Driveways Ltdhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/lanarkshires-largest2011-01-29T20:00:00.000Z2011-01-29T20:00:00.000ZBriarlea landscapes & Drivewayshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/BriarlealandscapesDriveways

Briarlea Landscapes and Driveways Ltd has Lanarkshires largest landscape and driveway display centre.

The centre is open seven days a week for customer convenience. Their small stand packed a big punch, showcasing the Wally One, Three and Five modules, creating a stunning living wall display that generated interest from garden centre managers, garden designers, distributors and even a street artist! Inventor and keen gardener, Miguel Nelson from LA, was delighted with the warm reception. “We know that our Woolly Pockets have great potential, both indoors and outside, for creating hanging gardens or horizontal clusters that not only look great but also care for the plants. It was great to launch to such a receptive audience at GLEE. Clearly the visitors were there to get new ideas and were very receptive to the possibilities. The quality of the people we spoke to in terms of their ability to make buying decisions was exceptional and we were delighted to introduce our Woolly World to so many strong contacts” Director of The Garden Works, John Connel, is working with The Woolly Pocket Garden Co to co-ordinate the launch. He endorsed Miguel’s view;- “I have been coming to GLEE for many years, and even in a recession it still manages to deliver quality trade visitors. People come here looking for innovation and the wow factor, and that is what we delivered. It was very encouraging to see the trade really appreciating the quality and technical abilities of this product, not least its creative possibilities and longevity. Even in the British weather, we are confident that the material is both breathable and durable for at least 15 years.” We are in discussions with several top garden centres to establish an in store display and develop a programme of staff training to help them engage with the product and sell it more effectively.” he added For more information and images please contact;- Claire Hart on 01460 259776, Mob; - 07825077791 or email;- claire.hart@event-logistics.co.uk For images see;- http://www.woollypocket.com/presskit
Mobilane will be unveiling its new LivePanel modular wall system at Ecobuild 2010. LivePanel will present the market with the most flexible system for decorating exterior or interior walls with a wide range of plants.

LivePanel consists of individual sections which are fixed to the wall or building using a lightweight aluminium frame. These sections can be cut to virtually any shape or size, making them extremely flexible and suited to a wide range of applications.

The specially developed and patented system has within it a substrate of Rockwool mineral wool specifically developed for living wall applications and into which the plants can easily take root. The substrate also allows water and nutrients to be added easily to ensure the plants remain well fed and watered and so ensuring the long term sustainability of the LivePanel living wall system.

A wide range of plants can be selected with the client’s requirements and local environmental conditions in mind. The system is low maintenance and features a fully automated irrigation system. LivePanel is easy to fit around doors and windows and can be extended to roof areas.

Talking about LivePanel, Sean Farrell of Mobilane said; “We are now entering the second phase of living wall technology. The first phase has focused on the industry working to overcome the challenge of developing systems and ensuring they perform. Mobilane systems offer proven superior performance and now we are entering the second phase where we are looking at ways of offering design flexibility.

“LivePanel allows near unlimited aesthetic and creative possibilities, both in shape and in plant types and colour. Designers can use different shades of green or bright colours. You can even recreate a company logo in plants.

“The use of Rockwool mineral wool also delivers a range of additional performance benefits. Rockwool’s market leading thermal, acoustic and fire insulation properties are well known.“

Mobilane will be exhibiting at Ecobuild on stand no.1569. LivePanel is being featured in the groundbreaking ‘Living Building’ being installed at the event by Capita Symonds and which has been designed by Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winner Patrick Collins.
However, almost nine in ten of them (87%) are unable to identify a hoe, and more than four-fifths can’t recognise the Latin name for a sunflower (Helianthus Annus). Furthermore, nearly half (47%) have more than a seed of doubt in their mind when it comes to saying what a perennial is (a plant that can live in all seasons for more than 2 years).Despite their keen green fingers - only one in ten (14%) would regard gardening as a hobby. Instead nearly four-in-ten of 25-34 year olds with any outside space to enjoy admit they would more likely to be found in it with a glass of wine in hand than a gardening tool, while more than half of 16-24 year-olds prioritised shopping over gardening. This new generation of non-gardening gardeners want to see instant results for minimal effort. Overall, more than a third (37%) want their gardens to look nice without having to put in the hours according to the survey by Scott’s MiracleGro.However nearly nine in ten (87%) agreed that they would use one plant above another if they knew it would save time and money. So while the zest for gardening is there, a lack of basic knowledge could be stopping many Instant Bloomers from fulfilling their gardening potential. If this sound all too familiar, to help get you started in the garden here is some of the Latin ‘lingo’: when it comes to plant names:Foxgloves - Digitalis purpureaDaisy - Bellis perennisIvy - Hedera helixRubber plant - Ficus elasticaOak - Quercus roburSunflower - Helianthus annuusSpider plant - Chlorophytum comosumAubergine - Solanum melongenaDandelion - Taraxicum officinaleSilver birch - Betula pendulTo help get Britain blooming a new online forum has been set up at www.lovethegarden.com.
Milan Milan Milan! Ideas, design and garden furniture!https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/milan-milan-milan-ideas-design2009-04-15T18:30:00.000Z2009-04-15T18:30:00.000ZFrancoise Murathttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FrancoiseMurat
We stuffed ourselves with chocolate before Easter and we did it throughout the long weekend.....Luckily we're going to be running around like mad this week, so off it comes....she says. My turn now to blog, as Geraldine is busy organising Milan, she speak Italian and I don't, so she gets the enviable job of phoning and checking all reservations. No easy task as I understand it in Italy. We will be visiting all the Italian furniture manufacturers as they have some fab new lines coming out and we will be looking particularly for some outdoor furniture this year. We would like to complement some of our gardens with stylish armchairs, sofas and tables.Outside socialising is important and it we get a good summer, even more so.But it's not just the Italians of course, there's the Dutch, the Danes, the Germans and the French - I'm sure it will be interesting to see what trends come out and will show up on the high street in 3 years time.We will also be scouting around for some new interiors accessories such as door furniture, lighting, homeware and new materials for our more quirky clients. We will also look out for some ceramic tiles - the Italians are so good in this field, and lastly rugs. We decided to look into this closely, several clients have asked about us designing something special for them and we have done 2 commissions so far, but we think we can do better. It will be interesting to see how "green" Milan has become, or not. We always ask our suppliers for their environmental policies, sometimes they surprise us by demonstrating green credentials which we never knew they had, others should know better and we don't buy from them. But we always tell them why - otherwise how can you educate and change the market? Two suppliers, one in Italy and another in Spain, decided to take it on board and are now working at looking at their manufacturing process and how they can make them greener -we even helped with their policies! Now that's what I call partnership!
