The garden needed built-in beds, seating and daybed to both maximise on space and also provide somewhere to sit, lounge and barbecue. The raised beds give height to the planting in order to create privacy. A daybed, generous enough for two, and a cantilever seat give in hardwood timber compliment the new hardwood decks. The planting design included a specimen Fig and Olive give structure and are complimented by evergreen planting that will maintain a clean look year round. Deteriorating fencing was replaced by contemporary slatted screens allowing light to pass through but maintaining privacy. A modular rattan cube set made the perfect choice to allow for leisurely dining without taking up valuable space.

Grand Designshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/grand-designs2011-10-19T10:58:38.000Z2011-10-19T10:58:38.000ZWoodBlocXhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/WoodBlocX

Wood BlocX Helps Create Some “Grand Designs!”

Last weekend (Oct 7-9th) was the Grand Designs Show held at the NEC in Birmingham and Wood BlocX took a starring role, featuring in the amazing show gardens on display there.

This years’ show was a busy as ever with over 70,000 visitors passing through and 500 exhibitors taking part. The show is the UK's number one, award-winning home show packed with design and inspiration to help visitors to create their perfect home. So it was only fitting that Wood BlocX was there to inspire people to create exciting outdoor features.

As ever the GRAND Gardens area of the show proved to be very busy.
It focussed on all things to make gardens an active part of peoples homes. Visitors took advantage of all the professional advice and tips on day to day care, with experts and celebrities sharing their experiences.

Amongst the most popular section were the show gardens, designed by award winning garden designer David Robinson, who has been working with the Grand Designs team on show gardens for the past three years.

David owns and manages ‘Up the Garden Path' - a team of reliable, expert professionals who helped show visitors to plan, design and create their dream garden.

David created a roof top garden that won the Daily Mail 2005 Design Award, has won medals with his show gardens from the RHS together with many other accolades. He's lectured for the BBC at Gardener's World Live and Nottingham University and this year he held design seminars at Grand Designs Live. He is also a registered member of the Society of Garden Designers, the UK's professional body for garden design.

So it is good to know that such an experienced gardener was really impressed with WoodBlocX and had no hesitation in choosing them for his rural garden scene.

David was asked to create a series of no less than seven different styles of gardens, within a 16m x 14m area, which include a beach theme, a very contemporary outdoor living area, kitchen/dining garden and a small modern balcony garden for high rise living.

One of his favourites, however, was the rural garden, featuring hens and the WoodblocX, which he used to make two water features measuring 5m long, by 1m wide and 4m high, plus a raised bed for grow your own veg.

David first came across Wood BlocX in the Society of Garden Designers magazine and was very impressed with the companies “Can Do “attitude and helpful advice.

He realised that the Wood BlocX offered a simple and flexible solution to creating instant raised beds and water features. “I liked the quick fit, quick fix idea- just like giant wooden Lego really! They are building blocks that anyone can use”

“When they arrived they came on one pallet, which initially looked a bit daunting, but all the paperwork and instructions that came with it were all really self explanatory and so easy to follow it was unbelievable. The whole process was so professionally done. The specifications and diagrams were just great”.

“We only had a week in which to complete these gardens and I was here til just past midnight the night before to finish it all off, so it was vital that any materials we used were simple to use and hassle free!”

David was so impressed that he plans to replicate the garden using Wood BlocX, when Grand Designs returns to London at Excel in May 2012.

David can be found at www.upthegardenpath.net

Will a garden designer source plants for my new garden?https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/will-a-garden-designer-source-plants-for-my-new-garden2011-09-27T12:00:00.000Z2011-09-27T12:00:00.000Zlovelucysummershttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/lovelucysummers

I am often asked this question and I suppose the response will be different depending on the company you approach.

At OGC we would give a resounding 'Yes'. Most of our design projects are from start to finish, so we normally offer this as part of the landscape design process. Also I strongly believe that hard landscaping has to be married with imaginative plantsmanship and one cannot co-exist without the other.

However, the other part of this question is "What if I don't want a new garden design, but would like some creative planting for existing or renovating borders?"

And here we just have to balance individual requests against our usual 'design' practice.

There's no doubt we answer lots of requests from non-clients trying to source a particular plant, shrub or tree.

Although it's easy enough to recommend particular plant nurseries, it might be that the client (as is usually the case,) has a very limited plant knowledge. So we're really sending them off to buy plants that might not be suitable for the spaces or aspect of the garden or in time may grow too big or become a nuisance. Which is not a good thing and does our reputation no good at all.

So it's a tricky balance. Replacing plants that have not fared well or died can be a costly exercise for the non-gardener. When you use a knowledgeable plants person, you are taking away the risk of planting the wrong thing in the wrong place. Or you have bought something that dies on you because you weren't aware of its non-hardiness or growing requirements,

Planting is a very creative skill in itself and not to be underestimated. Unlike painting a wall in a house interior, which can be changed very easily when you tire of it, planting, especially shrubs and trees are a permanent every-growing feature of a garden that will change in size and scale with the passing of the years.

Good planting is something that requires thought, experience and artistic license. Good planting will mature over the years to become an intrinsically valuable aspect of the garden. It is also one of the most joyful and expressive aspects of the design process and even the most experienced plantsman will continue to experiment and develop this creative craft as the years go by.

It would be very easy for a design company to do the same old plant combinations. However, that's a lazy and uninspiring route. It is not a static thing. A valuable plantsman will keep up-to-date with new trends, plants, hybrids or cultivars coming on to the market. Every time we plant a border, we are bringing fresh ideas to life, combining new, traditional and different plants in an innovative way. Planting, plant selections, new cultivars etc will change year on year, in relation to fashions, weather patterns and the designers' own caprice.

Which is just as it should be.

Tanalised Sleeper Raised Beds for Runner Beans and other Vegetableshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/tanalised-sleeper-raised-beds2011-07-18T16:39:24.000Z2011-07-18T16:39:24.000ZSteve Barkerhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/SteveBarker

A new project submission has been made to www.garden-design-pictures.com and the pictures can be viewed by clicking Vegetables

If you are a Garden Designer or Landscape Gardener you can claim your free advertisement and link to your website by emailing steve@garden-design-pictures.com and requesting more information.

Marshalls Argent Paving Projecthttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/marshalls-argent-paving-22011-06-29T10:30:05.000Z2011-06-29T10:30:05.000ZAbel Landscaping (Liverpool)https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/abellandscaping

Marshalls Argent Paving

This is a garden makeover we are currently carrying out in the West Derby area of Liverpool in Merseyside. Lots of things are happening for me and some things takes too long.

The internet is amazing tool for information, as you know, think about all things that happening in many arrabs countries thanks to...Facebook, Free online information- so people can see what is real freedom.

Well, with you I want to share 3 links that I got from this tool called google alerts ( it is ever so easy take seconds and goole will inform you about the subject you like). see the links down the page.

The good things I had this week:

I sent about 20 samples of our edgings, Inc lacashire county council, a castle garden few landscapers and private customers.

some of the orders that I supplied this week: one from a collage of 15 deep raised beds that will be used in a garden with disabilities- I am so glad as it is exactly what I wanted to get with these 45cm deep beds (At really budget cost- they paid only 35.00) . I really would like to see how they will shape the beds as these are flexi beds. Fair water Fairwater.co.uk bought root barrier, Thank you rick.

Must not forget Greame Mann, yes our favorite one orderd 50m Heavy Duty lawn edging ,( at a cool price)

and a potato planter,- Many thanks Greame. I should say recycled plastic crumbs.... the living room looks more or less like a factory..... Oh ... Actually in the middle now... I was cutting 2000 samples of the material that we made Lawn edging, root barriers and any shape raised beds. So 2000 more to cut as I need 4000 samples!

I was not just cutting samples of our plastic material ( with my father in law help) I was also cleaning bits from the saw and glowing the samples to our new leaflet (with double sided tape, if you wonder) so far nearly a week of work with some breaks.

It feels mad but I decided to add this samples to as inserts to the garden design journal.

But is it really worth the time?

Why am I doing it? Is that for the money only?

Well money is a very important thing and do drive me a bit especially after a week off with friends - and they all have big houses and we lost, actually everything when we moved to the uk 3.5 years ago. Our rented house as I said is an office, factory and the garden is in some area more like a warehouse and a garden centre - with a collection of exotic plants for sale. And for my 3 daughters I would give the moon if they just ask but... is not just for the money.

Look, we are all in this world in a stage that things are moving fast, no one give you quality control and tell you what is wrong and right. 2 years ago when I was lost with no hope, I decided that what I want to do is to start creating a change. I could see how so many people get ill and die and no ones know why or do a thing.

It is clear that recycling , reusing and reducing are the key So I decided to use my knowledge and promote products that are green. I saw how difficult it can be to try and promte new products, so once I learned few ways I thought that I should try with more products after all it can help everybody.

growing veg for example saves carbon footprint and also so healthy for soul and body and with our recycled plastic any shape enviro raised beds - it is so easy.

the lawn edging saves 65% on strimming and that is save for environment.

but why recycled? well I chose products that are made from 100% recycled plastic. At university we hat a visit to were all the rubish used to be kept - It looks like a huge mountain that is still as my daughter say not a problem it is a disaster. milions of tons of rubbish that can not be moved as it has gas inside, it leeks to the underground water, it smell- and you know what ? what else can you do with all the rubish that we consume.

So I choose green. green green. I want my daughters to enjoy a bit of clean air in 50 years lets say-
I actually hope that for any person that will live.

True, when I started I chose few products that were great and wanted to sell them, but more and more I was looking for reasons to do so and decided that what is important for me is to show that green solutions does not have to cost more.

In the last few month I got few emails from customers saying how good are the raised beds, one of them is here.

hi pat naylor here thanks for sorting our order out so promptly.they are my birthday present from my mum.I El-hashaharhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/OferElhashahar
Wow, Back from visiting israel 2 weeks ago. Amazing what hot weather, blue sea and blue sky , many friends and family can do to to spirit.Time gone very fast since I was back trying to contact leads from Glee and four oaks.Great news one big order from aggregates firm that works nationwide and will market the Garden edgings into few hundreds shops and garden centres. It was great to hear how many landscapers and garden designers thought that the heavy duty strimmer resistant lawn edging is a great solution with a reasonable price and offerd to add to there webshops as well as to use it.working now on contacts from abroad: Canada, Germany and France for the long term and few more garden centres in the UK- main interest is the edgings and the raised beds. This year I should try to work with more landscapers/ garden designers and with the big distributors that sells to the garden centres. I just can not do marketing to garden centres - I found it fairly hard and in most cases -it is waisted time.there is also list of new products that will be added too.If you are looking for edgings, terraces or raised beds remember to contact me and get your discount and free samples to show customers if needed. It was great as the lady was so happy and said she will speak to all of her friends. The next thing to do is I think to work on PR and send info/ samples to 'Gardening leaders'- like magazines and tv progrrames.not sure yet who - if you have any ideas on someone that people trust let me know.Well should rest a bit this week so going fishing tommorow with my 6 years old niss (I promised her a while ago).So great to write again on this blog even more when things are great.best luck to you all.Offerwater or hkjkj
2 years in the UK , the biggest hose and Lj friendshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/2-years-in-the-uk-the-biggest2009-07-03T10:04:26.000Z2009-07-03T10:04:26.000ZOfer El-hashaharhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/OferElhashahar
Few weeks ago was 2 years for me here- I was dying to write but too many things happened. One of the greatest things about living in the UK -is that you get new friends and you find supporting people. The week of the 2 years was not very nice as I had to spend 2 days learning all information that no one knows or actually should know to take a life in the uk test - (questions there for example where can you get your national insurance number) - and to pay £850 for a visa application -never mind all that is behind me.So, the longest or biggest hose in Lj -is just as a retained fireman , I am on call for few weeks and the only jobs I did was playing with school children -let them spray some water. After long time a new stock arrived - yes sure - lawn edgings and raised beds. The new thing is a 12cm deep heavy duty edging in addition to the 15 cm, this edging is 2mm thick so looks just like what you might know as everedge or smartedge. In fact can last longer than metal edgings easier to use and reasonable price+ mark up for any resellers. The other line of the raised beds got new design so no fittings needed - so nothing to loose on posting. And with some colors Brown or Black.seems like there are less orders so should keep and contact garden centres and garden designers, and perhaps look for extra part time job. As savings are running out and lots of bill...-scary.well, should try to keep positive and work hard after all there is always a progress and keep getting positive feedback from customers. I think that my English is getting slightly better so it make things easier.Again many thanks to all of you that supported so far in my new adventure- I probably were not here without you.Is summer is a slow at new projects for you? trying to learn how the seasons effects us.yourOfer
Not for squares only - Recycled raised Beds -design your shape.https://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/not-for-squares-only-recycled2009-04-22T23:00:00.000Z2009-04-22T23:00:00.000ZOfer El-hashaharhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/OferElhashahar
The recycled raised beds can used for any shape not just for squares or rectangles."you sent me the garden raised beds kits two weeks ago" the lady said on the phone " and they're great- look so good with the curvy shape that I will send you a photo this week and another one later on with the plants. "And, " she added proudly, " I did it all by myself!". sure I was pleased to hear that.Pat rang me a few weeks ago and said that she liked the idea of wavy raised beds with two levels on the grass - like the photo on the website. She has an area where the lawn is poor and she would like to grow some veg there, so she asked me if she can build this kit by herself." I am sure", I answered- "It will take seconds and is very simple to do."" you will need one long, low one and a medium, short one for the centre."I found then that she ordered both one size bigger so I rang and told her- but she had already sent a cheque. When I offered to give her change Pat said it is not necessary because she needs some edging for a gravel path that she has. I was very happy when Few Lj members asked for samples and there are on the way. Kerrie Got one and mention that it is great quality very reasonable price and that she like the fact it is made from recycled materials.4. I only contact 3 retailers so far , 2 mail orders company- that liked my products but have stock for this year and a garden centre that ordered all the lines of products: raised beds, edging and potato tub. It is great news!,THE PLANT CENTRE, c/o The Garden Place, Cropper Road, Marton , Blackpool FY4 5LB. All the deatails about this garden centre will be on my website so customers from the area can see/buy the products there. AS I have a google ad campain that work well there are about 200 people visiting the e-shop every day.I visited homebase and wilkinson today and thought that every garden centre should have the raised beds that have as it is ever so easy to carry back home. I just can not find time to all the marketing hopefully this week I will start doing that. But also should offer other people a great opportunity of marketing these products.I still have a stock of great wonderful garden lights that I think any garden designer should know how to install/ plan .It can add lots of value to any garden High light the style of the garden.I should right more about it but you always welcome to read about atplantsfromzion@gmail.com
