This was our first time exhibiting in Australia, so it was good to see so many existing customers as well as discuss the benefits of our turf maintenance machinery to other visitors who may not have seen our range of equipment before.

“The demonstration days organised by our dealer Proturf were very well organised and allowed us to speak to greenkeepers which has been invaluable.”

The SISIS Veemo MK2 is a tractor-mounted scarifier used for removing thatch from large areas of turf, such as golf course fairways.

The Veemo’s strong cutting blades are designed for minimum surface disturbance and maximum thatch removal via three floating heads which are independent from the main frame. The heads each move in all degrees of motion and follow any undulations of the ground on a fairway without any danger of damaging/scalping the turf, whilst the tungsten tipped hook blades with variable spacing cut effectively through the thatch layer.

Unrivalled on undulating ground, with fast ground coverage saving time and money; the Veemo has a simple depth control without the use of any tools by means of a micro-adjuster on each unit, giving flexibility for scarifying and verticutting.

The SISIS Litamina 1200 & 1500 models are tractor mounted compact sweepers and collectors for collecting all types of surface debris from fine turf and outfield turf. Their effective sweeping brushes mean it is ideal for sports field maintenance, golf courses, synthetic turf maintenance and amenities.

The SISIS Litamina has a spiral design brush for effective collection, a hydraulic tip facility for easy emptying and a large capacity hopper.

Further information about the range of bowls maintenance products available can be found by visiting www.dennisuk.com / www.sisis.com.

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Dennis on Twitter @DennisMowers and SISIS @SISISMachinery. The sporting summer of 2014 has been an amazing spectacle and all but completed, with the winter sport season about to begin. Glasgow has shone for the Games and Royal Liverpool and Royal Porthcawl looked magnificent for both the Opens. It’s not long until the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, so it’s getting to the sharp end for the greenkeeping team up there.

Here, Alan Abel from Complete Weed Control gives his monthly advice on what to look out for.

We have seen an early season this year for weed control, as temperatures rose in April and a lot of selective weed control took place. But that's 4 months ago and they are running out of steam, especially where clover has germinated later than broad leaf weeds.

James McKenzie MBE, Director of Golf Courses & Estate Management at Celtic Manor relies on Complete Weed Control for a total solution programme.
James McKenzie MBE, Director of Golf Courses & Estate Management at Celtic Manor relies on Complete Weed Control for a total solution programme.
It might now be necessary to contemplate a second spray in some situations. Where clover is the only problem, then it is so obvious that spot treatment is effective.

It’s also the time of year that the invasives can become more obtrusive. The Giant Hogweed has flowered, while the Himalayan Balsam is in the ‘pink’ and spreading at a rate of knots. Japanese Knotweed is very obvious but is late to flower, maybe due to lack of moisture in the ground.

Every season is so different, and plants respond in different ways. That's why timing of herbicide applications is of the essence and needs to so precise due to their rising cost. This is where passing this type of specialist work to a contractor pays dividends, as they have the expertise and know the different treatments available best suited to your needs.

Despite the loss of some of the well-known herbicides like Tordon 22k and Timbrel to name only two, there are other new products on the market that need stewardship before supplying and must be used by professionals.

Complete Weed Control has a national network of franchisees ready to survey any situation and offer a solution to any weed, pest or disease problems. Disease in fine turf will be prevalent in the early autumn. All turf managers of these areas should be looking at the health of the plant going into these periods of high incidences of disease.

By making the grass stronger with the use of Harpins, fertilisers, turf hardeners and other products, this will protect the swards from being attacked by pathogens. This all comes under the umbrella of the Sustainable Use Directive (SUDS) from the EU. Using more cultural methods and trying to reduce the input of fungicides is the aim of the directive. This goes for all of the amenity market. You could also look at Integrated Pest Management to try and reduce our reliance on pesticides in general.

It’s not long until SALTEX at Windsor Racecourse, and all that promises. Let's hope for good weather again for all the exhibitors.

For more information, please contact Complete Weed Control’s National office on 01325 324 277 or visit www.completeweedcontrol.co.uk. Mulch mowing is 100% natural: it does away with the need to gather up, store and dispose of the cuttings, it fertilises the soil, and it helps the lawn to stand up to drought conditions.

Pellenc tools can now be seen in every major UK city, as well as the majority of national trust sites around the country. “Most councils and contractors are looking more closely at the lifetime cost of their machinery and not just the initial purchasing cost. Our product is not the cheapest to buy, but if you consider lifetime cost, repairs, maintenance and downtime, the value is there for all to see".

In the last five years, Pellenc has gained market recognition by offering a unique range of ‘zero emission’ battery-powered handheld tools, thanks to the development of Lithium-ion ultra-high performance batteries. This technology, which is exclusive to Pellenc, allows for a drastic reduction in the production of greenhouse gases and noise pollution. It is also comfortable for users, meets new sustainable development demands and offers excellent economic profitability. All tools now come with a comprehensive three year warranty.

A range of petrol and diesel Etesia pedestrian and ride-on machines can also be seen by visiting RT Machinery, an Etesia approved dealer, on stand D45.

For further information, please contact Etesia UK on 01295 680120 or visit www.etesia.co.uk

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Etesia UK on Twitter @EtesiaUK and like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/EtesiaUK. This year for the first time Barry Boustead used Evolution5, a coated, controlled release fertiliser from Sherriff Amenity, resulting in the best outfield grass cover anyone can remember and a host of compliments.

Each year Barry gets just three weeks to turn a winter First XV pitch into a summer one for the First XI. It is an intense period of work. In the five previous years he has been at the school; his routine for transferring from rugby to cricket outfield has been re-seed, top dress, spray with iron, and apply lots of fertiliser. It works to a certain extent, but it is immensely time consuming for a solo professional.

The pitch is a showpiece for the independent co-educational school dating back to the 15th century, being directly adjacent to its main building. It is very much a focal point.

On the advice of the head groundsman at Durham University, where Barry had previously worked, he called in Sherriff Amenity’s Mark Robertson to conduct soil testing and check nutrient levels to see what course of action would take the pitch to a higher level of excellence. Evolution5 25.5.8 fine granule spring fertiliser is specifically for early growing season application to fine turf mown above 6mm, and therefore ideal for cricket outfields, especially where sward thickening following winter sports use is required. Urea coating ensures four-to- five month effectiveness, nitrogen gives strong, dense growth, and magnesium means a pleasing season-long grass colour.

“Getting the pitch checked like this and then doing a single application of Evolution5 worked out less expensive than the routines I’d been following,” said Barry. “More importantly, it took up a lot less of my time and the outfield sward is so much better than I’d previously been able to achieve.”

Using a tractor-mounted spreader, Barry said the job took just half a day, applying Evolution5 spring treatment at 35 grams per square metre

“I was pleasantly surprised to see how quickly it took a hold, given how cold it was this spring,” added Barry. “A slow release fertiliser that gets to work at speed is a real bonus in school pitch work.

“Pitch conditions are not too heavy and I do a twice yearly application of sand top-dressing to keep it that way. The over winter surface actually wears quite well, though there are some worn areas. The real problem I’ve had has been getting establishment of spring-sown seed, and minimising intrusion of meadow grass. In just a few weeks Evolution 5 changed all that and germination was much more effective.”

During the summer term Barry deals with at least one, sometimes two matches a day on one or other of the pitch’s two tables. In May it staged a benefit match for two of Durham’s top county players, Gordon Muchall and Gareth Breeze. Durham Jets, the county’s limited over side took on a Durham ‘Legends’ side, which included West Indies test star Shivnarine Chanderpaul, and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara. After the match Barry said that these big names made a point of complimenting him on the quality of the outfield.

Barry already plans to boost the switch back to a rugby surface in the autumn term by applying Evolution5 12.5.21 autumn fertiliser.

For further information, please contact Sherriff Amenity on 01638 721 888 or visit www.sherriffamenity.com

For more news and insightful views, you can follow Sherriff Amenity on Twitter @SherriffAmenity

Tottenham Hotspur Choose SISIS for Versatility and Flexibilityhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/tottenham-hotspur-choose-sisis-for-versatility-and-flexibility2014-07-18T08:55:51.000Z2014-07-18T08:55:51.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

Tottenham Hotspur FC grounds manager Darren Baldwin has chosen a SISIS tractor mounted brush combination of a Zig Zag brush and Flexibcomb which have been fitted to a Twinplay frame for use on both the synthetic and natural surfaces at the club’s new training ground in Enfield.

As grounds manager, Darren is responsible for both the training ground and stadium pitch at White Hart Lane, overseeing a team of over 20. Part of his day-to-day duties include the maintenance of both the one and a half outdoor and one 70 x 50 metre indoor synthetic pitches at the training ground, which are used 7-days-a-week.

With that amount of activity; it is vitally important a regular maintenance programme is followed to keep the synthetic surfaces in tip-top condition at all times. This involves a combination of light or heavy brushes to even out the distribution of rubber crumb on a daily basis.

“An important part of my job is to work with key suppliers within the industry. Here at Tottenham Hotspur; we have a number of key suppliers that we work with from fertilisers and chemicals and in my view, most importantly – machinery; where we will use two or three key suppliers to make sure that we get all of the equipment that we need for the specific jobs we are required to do. An integral part of our synthetic surface maintenance equipment is the SISIS Flexicomb and Zig Zag brushes, which we use on a regular basis throughout the week.”

The SISIS Flexicomb has 52 sets of polypropylene bristles which can be made stiffer or softer by simple adjustment of the crossbar. On synthetic surfaces the Flexicomb grooms the pitch, standing up the carpet fibres and returns the surface to a perfect playing condition ensuring an even distribution of infill material. The system is also just as effective on natural turf and can, depending on the chosen setting, be used as a brush or as a rake – versatility which has impressed Darren.

“The main reason for our use of the Flexicomb is its versatility. Not only do we use it on the synthetic pitches but also our natural pitches. We find it useful to use after training sessions where we will go over the area with the brushes which stands the grass up ready for us to hoover up any debris.”

“The SISIS brushes are so simple to use. There are times when we need to de-compact the synthetic surface which requires a stiffer setting and there are other times where we are just looking for a light brush over of the surface, but it only takes minutes to adjust. The system is very quick and keeps presentation of the surface very high.

The best feature on the SISIS synthetic equipment is its flexibility. The Zig Zag brush is very important at the front to even out the rubber crumb before the Flexicomb comes behind and is brilliant at standing up the fibres and evenly distributing the rubber infill.

We’ve had outstanding success with the Flexicomb and would fully recommend it to be used on any synthetic surface.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact SISIS on 01332 824 777 or visit www.sisis.com

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow SISIS on Twitter @SISISMachinery and like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/SISISMachinery. Here, Alan Abel from Complete Weed Control gives his monthly advice on what to look out for.

Council cut-backs are showing up across the country making driving even more hazardous than usual. With species like hogweed, thistles, docks, etc. growing quicker and higher than grasses; a judicious spray of a selective herbicide mixed with trinexapac-ethyl PGR is the way forward.

It would increase safety by a huge percentage and save money for councils as the grass would be lower and less dense when a cut finally became necessary.

This practice is a proven mix and will be a major player in the control of amenity grass and weed growth throughout many county council spheres of work including housing areas and open spaces. When budgets are being attacked so severely, people must look outside the box and see what is available that is both cost effective and does the job.

Staying with Councils, the 'lowest price' seems to be the way they are going when awarding some contracts. But this does not always mean the cheapest option for them in the long run.

Their officers may have to run around more to ensure the job is happening and being carried out as per the specification. Depending how much of the above occurs and how many complaints are received at the switchboard, the actual cost may end being considerably higher than the original tender price.

With so many hoops to jump through, as a contractor, applying pesticides safely throughout the UK and Ireland, CWC have achieved the Amenity Approved Standard, ISO 9001 and 14002 across all our Franchisees.

We adhere to these standards every day, and NOT just the day of the audit.
With our WEED-IT technology blazing a trail down many street pavements, our franchisees comply with EU legislation and the new herbicide labelling on glyphosate products.

The law is that only spot treatment of weeds on hard surfaces is permitted. This law, as long as it is adhered to by ALL personnel applying Glyphosate to street pavements and other hard surfaces, will prolong the life of glyphosate.

If it is used incorrectly and perhaps blanket sprayed, then it may be found in water courses. The water framework directive gives the Environment Agency the power to closely look for pesticides in water. The result could be the withdrawal of glyphosate from use.

This would be disastrous for all of us, resulting in much higher food prices as agriculture would be hit hard and the cost of keeping the streets and high profile amenity areas clear of weeds would be colossal.

For more information, please contact Complete Weed Control’s National office on 01325 324 277 or visit www.completeweedcontrol.co.uk. The college campus sits on 1,400 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, along the shores of Hartwell Lake. With over 50 sports clubs operating, it is vitally important that sports surfaces are always kept in peak condition.

“The pitches work hard all-year-round so compaction along with thatch can be serious issues if it is not dealt with in the proper manner," commented Ernest. “After an extensive search for the correct machinery to carry out these key tasks, we spoke to Ian Camp from C.S. Trading who recommended the SISIS Veemo and Multislit. We received a demonstration, and were so impressed that we decided to purchase both pieces of kit.”

Thatch accumulation is one of the most common turf related problems experienced by today's turf managers. Because of the ever-increasing demands placed on sports facilities throughout the year, effective management is essential. De-thatching is important to encourage germination and the Veemo allows Ernest to verticut the university’s sportsfields, whilst removing the thatch build-up in an efficient, timely manner.

The Veemo has three floating heads independent from the main frame which move in all degrees of motion and follow any undulations of the ground on a fairway without any danger of damaging the turf, whilst the tungsten tipped hook blades with variable spacing cut effectively through the thatch layer. Depth of cut is infinitely variable by means of a micro-adjuster on each unit.

Fitted with a direct drive to tine shaft via hydraulic motors mounted on the de-thatching units is something that has been a major plus to Ernest. “The performance and power from this machine has been superb.”

The SISIS Multislit is a tractor mounted deep slitting aerator which is suitable for the maintenance of soccer, rugby, cricket pitches and golf courses. The slitter, featuring 40 sharpened fine turf tines, can be used on a compact tractor, minimising the overall weight on the surface.

The Multislit produces excellent underground cultivation due to the angle of the tines. The spiral design of tine shaft assist penetration and its simple design requires little maintenance.

“The ease of operation and the end result achieved are the best features of the Multislit. The grounds maintenance crew like using both machines because of the results you get from them. Using them has become part of our maintenance schedule.

“SISIS manufacture turf maintenance machines that are not luxury items, but necessities,” said Ernest.

For further SISIS product information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact CS Trading on (864) 843 5972 or visit www.sisis.com.

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow SISIS on Twitter @SISISMachinery and like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/SISISMachinery. In May 2013, the grass eventually woke up from a long winter, whereas this year, it is about six weeks ahead. Alan Abel from Complete Weed Control gives his monthly advice on what to look out for.

Operating by dates is clearly not the way forward. Turf managers have to deal with problems/weeds/situations/grass growth as and when they arrive.

Contracting is a delicate balancing act of getting the right herbicide on the right area with the right equipment at the right time and especially at the right rate of application.

When you look at that paragraph closely, it is difficult to achieve all those parameters given the weather we now see as the over-riding factor.

This is where dealing with a local contractor comes into its own. They know what the weather will be like better than someone travelling maybe 250 miles to do the same job. They then end up spending extra money on accommodation or being forced into doing the job in the wrong working conditions.

As far as 'in the field' is concerned, Complete Weed Control has been flagging up the leatherjacket populations and there is definitely no reason to change this point of view. They are very active and many golf fairways are being eaten alive. We are finding grubs as long as one pound coins!

It’s probably on the edge of being financial sense to spray now and again in the autumn/winter.

Where PGR's (Primo Maxx/Clipless) have been applied in a programmed approach, it is noticeable weed populations are less. These products are such an important inclusion in any turf manager's arsenal and in damp, even wet conditions they help with the overall look of the facility.

As far as weeds are concerned, there is no shortage! Due to the wet winter and reasonably mild conditions, they are strong and have been flourishing for around a month due. Slender speedwell is showing up in managed amenity turf, so the more high- end products such as Cabadex and Praxys are necessary to knock this innocuous looking weed out, as it creeps further and further without people realising. Old favourites like daisy, clover, dandelion, chickweed, cat’s ear and hawkbit are all present in great numbers.

Also, due to the extensive winter flooding; Himalayan Balsam, Giant Hogweed and Japanese Knotweed are even bigger problems this year. Icade, which needs a Stewardship Lecture before buying, is the new product incorporating aminopyralid and triclopyr that will control these weeds @ 4 litres. There is no 'silver bullet' for Japanese Knotweed and 'control' is all you can expect.

Balsam and Hogweed need controlling early as they become more difficult to apply herbicides the taller they get.

You can contact any of our Complete Weed Control Franchisees, all local to you, who will be happy to furnish you with advice on any problem, be it weed, insect, pest or fungicide related

For more information, please contact Complete Weed Control’s National office on 01325 324 277 or visit www.completeweedcontrol.co.uk. When it came to replace an old SISIS Robbi triple brush that the school had used for eight years, he visited the company stand at IOG SALTEX in September 2013 to purchase the newer enhanced Brush-Pro model.

“We’ve got a range of SISIS machines from slitters, scarifiers and sweepers to the machine we use on the synthetic surface, which we use on a daily basis,” said Brian. “The Robbi had done such a good job in the previous eight years, that when the time came to replace it, we knew what our preferred choice would be. We visited SALTEX and after a demonstration following the show, purchased the Brush-Pro early this year.”

Small enough to manoeuvre through a single gate, yet capable of performing the required daily or weekly activities to keep a synthetic surface in perfect shape, the SISIS Brush-Pro ride-on system has been specifically designed for maintaining synthetic surfaces. It consists of a pair of mid-mounted oscillating brush units for periodic aggressive maintenance and three foldable rear mounted brushes spreading 3 metres for more regular maintenance, which means fewer passes are needed compared to more conventional drag brushing, causing less surface compaction.

Synthetic surfaces require a good maintenance programme in place from installation. Failure to regularly remove dirt, leaf debris and other detritus from the surface can lead to contamination of the infill, which in turn prevents rainwater from draining freely through the carpet.

Brian says that all regular maintenance of the synthetic surface is carried out in-house by groundstaff at the school. "We need to ensure that the surface is always kept to a high standard as it’s not only used by pupils but also by the local community. The Brush-Pro needed to be small enough to be able to fit through a set of gates, yet powerful enough to cope with the weekly tasks we need to complete. In that respect, it’s great.”

Colfe’s School is one of a growing number of customers to enhance their on-site maintenance equipment with dedicated synthetic surface maintenance machinery from SISIS. From schools and colleges, to premiership football clubs and also pitch installers, the SISIS Brush-Pro offers the complete in-house maintenance machinery package.

“The oscillating brushes are by far its best feature as they enable us to not only get right into the surface but also control the moss on the edges of the surface. I’d have no hesitation in recommending the Brush-Pro to anyone looking after a synthetic surface,” said Brian.

The Megaslit and Multislit are great pieces of kit and both do a great job. They are efficient, quick and work in tandem with the other piece of aeration equipment we use. Because of the volume of land we have here, we needed something that would do a good job and do it quickly. Both machines immediately ticked all of our boxes giving us a clean slitting motion for quick root pruning, slicing the fibre and controlling thatch.”

Aeration is crucial for improving drainage, reducing turf compaction, thatch build up and increasing the health of the grass.

The SISIS Megaslit is a tractor mounted deep slitting aerator which gives a deep, clean penetration and is ideal for larger areas, such as sportsfields and golf fairways. The 2.5m wide deep slitter, featuring 32 heavy duty tines, achieves maximum underground cultivation due to the angle of the tines and spiral design of the tine shaft assists penetration.

The smaller 1.5m wide SISIS Multislit is also a tractor mounted deep slitting aerator which is suitable for the maintenance of football, rugby, cricket pitches and golf courses. The slitter, featuring 40 sharpened fine turf tines, can be used on a compact tractor, minimising the overall weight on the surface.

The simple design of both machines means that very little on-going maintenance is required - another key factor in the purchase, as Chris explains: “Nothing has ever gone wrong with the machines; that’s why I like them so much. They are simple to use and basic to maintain - we only ever need to grease the rollers. You can fit them on a lighter weight tractor as long as they can pick it up and it’s an easy operation to carry out.”

Both machines were put straight into work and will predominantly be used during the winter months. “We will use the machines from November through to January,” explained Angus. We use them from 2 inches right up to 10 inches – as long as we don’t have any issues with wiring or irrigation pipes and they give us very little surface disturbance.

“We see slitting as an important operation at The Belfry and these machines are great because you can vary the depth for thatch control and root pruning. They’ve proven their worth at the last four golf courses I have been at so why change something if it works so well?”

He now has a team of nine gardeners to assist with the upkeep of the facility which is roughly a third of Durham city and also includes the botanical gardens.

When purchasing new equipment, Barry discusses matters with the horticultural officer to see what machines are suitable and could make the life of their operators easier which include noise, vibrations etc.

Barry and his team like to keep the grass short and presentable at all times, which over the last year has been very testing, but as he explains, has been made easier with the range of ride-on and pedestrian mowers he discovered over 15 years ago.

“We have an excellent relationship with our local machinery dealer, Lloyds, who are very knowledgeable and they recommended Etesia to us when we were looking for a mower which we could use in the wet and capable of being able to cut and collect or cut and drop,” explained Barry.

“I like the fact that we can cut, collect or cut and drop using the same machine because it saves us so much time. We order three new machines per year, which simply replace the oldest ones and so the cycle continues.

“The Etesia mowers have really come into their own in the past 12 months because they have been so good at cutting and collecting in the wet weather we’ve experienced. We have mobile grass cutting teams and the new Duocut models have been popular with them because they are very light for people to lift on and off van/trailer from site to site.

The new range of Duocut 46cm mowers are extremely versatile, and are capable of mowing with or without collection in all conditions, or allowing high-quality mulching. And they do all of this with no need for an accessory – you just place the removable insert under the deck if you choose to mulch, making them very operator-friendly. Excellent mulching results are achieved because the grass is very finely ‘crushed’, even if it is long and wet.

“We have over 15 ride-on and walk-behind Etesia machines and return to them time and time again because they certainly stand the test of time,” says Barry.

Recently, he was able to persuade the club to invest in some new turf maintenance machinery.

“When we were looking for a new aerator I spoke to other groundsmen. I’d heard how good the Aer-Aid was from those who were using it and the benefits of injecting air in to the rootzone, so we organised a demonstration through our local dealer. Following this, we placed an order,” commented Mick.

The Javelin Aer-Aid 1500 not only aerates with a vertical action, but also injects air into the root zone at a fast working rate, creating thousands of fissures. The cam trigger mechanism ensures that the air is always expelled at the bottom of the tine penetration. The overall result is reduced compaction and a healthier root growth. The 10mm diameter ‘tipped’ tines are spaced at 75mm (3ins) with depth of penetration infinitely variable to a maximum of 127mm (5ins). The air injection tines are designed to use the maximum air available from the compressor and produce clean, fresh air. Surface disturbance is also kept to a minimum.

“The Aer-Aid will blast air into the rootzone where you need it. It also decompacts the surface when it gets that little bit too hard. Since we’ve been using this machine, we’ve also noticed less injuries to players lower backs and lower legs.

“I use the machine before our home matches because I can reduce compaction and with so little surface disturbance, it means it can be played on straight away which is great.”

The Javelin Aer-Aid 1500 has a working width of 1.5 meters and is extremely quiet in operation. It can be powered by compact tractor as little as 30hp which also keeps weight on the surface to a minimum. Used at the correct speed and depth, it can aerate a typical football pitch in just 3 - 3.5 hours, whilst leaving an even finish that can be played on immediately afterwards.

“Changing tines is also quick and there is very little maintenance needed on the machine. I’ve found it so simple to use. You can go at fast speed or slow speed in most weather conditions and all you need to do is wash it off after you use it. And that is when he has good reason to value his long loyalty to Dennis and in particular the G860.

“I felt that Dennis were pioneers in the market. They were the first company to bring out an interchangeable cassette mower and the G860 is a machine I have always trusted for its sheer quality and reliability,” says Mark who has just purchased a new machine. “I’ve been using the G860 for the nine years I’ve been head groundsman here, so when it came to choosing a new one, there was only going to be one choice – it had to be another Dennis G860.”

Mark who oversees four other members of staff at both the stadium and training ground says that a key decision in purchasing the new machines was ease of use and manoeuvrability for both himself and his groundstaff added to the different cassettes available to carry out key seasonal tasks using just one power source.

“We have the Verti-Cutter cassette to deal with thatch and lateral growth, brush cassette and obviously cutting cassettes which we have two for each machine. This means that when one goes off to be re-ground, we always have one we can use; keeping down-time down to a minimum. We use the eight-bladed cutting cylinder in the lead up to a home match including on the day of the match because they give an excellent presentation. After the match we swap the cassette to the brush to sweep any divots or debris up before verti-cutting. The machines are so simple to use – I didn’t want to have a machine that was difficult to set-up and that only I could use.”

The Dennis G860 has six quick changeover cassette options giving ultimate flexibility and a single power unit for many day-to-day maintenance tasks. This versatility coupled with low ground pressure, at just 166kgs, and manoeuvrability makes the G860 the first choice for many top sporting venues around the world including World Cup Finals and European Championships.

“We have always had a great service from Dennis, whether it is sales or servicing machines,” he says. “From my own personal experience; I’ve always preferred the G860 and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to any other groundsmen.”

For further information or a no obligation demonstration, please contact Dennis 01332 824 777 or visit www.dennisuk.com

For more news, reviews and insightful views, you can follow Dennis on Twitter @DennisMowers and like the company’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/DennisMowersUK. As soon as I started here, I knew it was a Dennis that I wanted as it allows me to complete a range of different jobs.”

Purchased with a range of cassettes including an 8-blade cutting cylinder, tungsten tipped verti-cutter and brush allows Colin the flexibility to not just cut the Easter Road stadium pitch to a high standard with the ever present ‘Dennis Stripes’ effect, but also carry out key tasks after matches such as brushing and verti-cutting, which according to Colin doesn’t allow thatch or organic matter to build up on the pitch.

“The cutting and finish we get with these machines is absolutely tremendous. It is probably the best machine I have got in the fleet. I really enjoy using it because it’s so simple and quick to change the cassettes. It’s not just great before games for cutting but the brush cassette is also really good for tidying debris after games.”

The Dennis G860 has six quick changeover cassette options giving ultimate flexibility and a single power unit for many day-to-day maintenance tasks. I can honestly say that I’ve fallen in love with it and I would definitely recommend Dennis to other groundsmen,” said Colin.

Visitors to the show not only came from the US but also further afield from Europe, Asia and South America who were all looking at the latest technology available.

Paul Copsey, group courses manager at Crown Golf commented: “It was a fantastic trip from start to finish. Not just going to the show, but also the education. The whole experience and hospitality we received from Sherriff Amenity and Everris was absolutely brilliant.”

Ed Carter, sales and development manager for Everris said: “Everris firmly believe that with customer expectation increasing all the time it is crucial that suppliers and turf managers alike benefit from the insight GIS offers. This year’s trip was extremely beneficial for all involved not only as a result of GIS but also the education and understanding that came through additional learning afforded by a wider agenda that included course walks and a further seminar program.

The whole week saw the group involved in discussion and debate and I’m sure everybody learned something new which could be taken back to the UK and considered for use on their own sites. Everris and Sherriff Amenity were hugely impressed with the quality and professionalism of the group which represented many of the UK’s leading resort golf groups and it’s safe to say that many friendships were made along the way which will no doubt benefit working relationships in 2014 and beyond.”

Mark Pyrah, Amenity Director at Sherriff Amenity said: “We continue to add value through education and fully support communication across the industry. The trip to the GIS was a golden opportunity to further develop our working relationship with some of the key golf groups in the UK and was very successful.”

Martin Guy, Owner of MG Developments added: “It was a relaxed atmosphere from the time we met up at the airport until we returned back to the UK. The opportunity to be with a group of like-minded people from clubs around the UK and to be able to discuss different issues was invaluable.”

For further information, please contact Sherriff Amenity on 01638 721 888 or visit www.sherriffamenity.com

For more news and insightful views, you can follow Sherriff Amenity on Twitter @SherriffAmenity

Souters Sports to Offer Free Pitch Inspectionshttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profiles/blogs/souters-sports-to-offer-free-pitch-inspections2014-04-04T08:58:18.000Z2014-04-04T08:58:18.000ZFusion Mediahttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/FusionMedia

As part of Souters Sports continual investment in ensuring that clients receive the highest level of customer service, the contractor will now be offering free no-obligation pitch inspections.

Souters Sports have the expertise and state-of-the-art equipment to provide complete refurbishment or simple and effective maintenance procedures to any playing surface. SCORE has been pioneered and managed by Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme, The Trust of Leyton Orient Football Club.

The pitch forms the centre piece at SCORE and is used by a range of local clubs, social teams, schools, colleges and Leyton Orient’s Academy.

As Neil Brown, SCORE Operations Manager explains: “The artificial sports pitches are used around the clock 7 days-a-week. We used to have continuous problems with the pitches flooding during heavy periods of rain. McArdle, who installed the surface, recommended we brought in Replay Maintenance to help solve our issues.”

Following a site visit by the experienced technical team at Replay back in 2010, a three year Replay Revive® service agreement was recommended with a Replay Rejuvenation® scheduled for late 2013 - ensuring that the pitch was always kept in the best possible condition and that flooding of the pitches would soon be a thing of the past.

The patented Replay Rejuvenation® process can restore compacted and contaminated artificial football, rugby, hockey and tennis surfaces to an ‘as new’ performance and appearance using compressed air to remove the contaminated top layer of infill and restore the pile to a vertical position. New clean infill is then added. The process can often double the playing life of a pitch or tennis court for less than a quarter of the cost of installing a new carpet. And, unlike replacing a pitch, the Replay Rejuvenation® can be completed in days – saving time and minimising loss of revenue to any facility.

“Prior to Replay, we had continuous problems with the pitch flooding. The maintenance that we have received over the last three years has greatly reduced the flooding. Since the Replay Rejuvenation, and even during the recent torrential rain, the pitches have performed remarkably well – I don’t think any other 3G pitches were playable in the area – which is testament to the on-going maintenance work carried out by Replay.”

“As a charity, ensuring that the facility is always available for use and fit for purpose enables us to meet our community targets. We had just completed a three-year service agreement, and because the pitches had been consistently performing over that period, we had no hesitation in signing a longer five-year agreement with Replay Maintenance. It makes budgeting easier having a fixed price for five years and we know that we won’t have any issues with the facility in that time. I’ve been impressed with Replay’s level of technical expertise and would recommend them to any other facility.”

For further information, please contact Replay Maintenance on 01636 640 506 or visit the company’s website www.replaymaintenance.co.uk.
