  • Hi Simon

I've spent many a year exposed to all the elements, as most on here have, and I've split many a set of yellow Faithful foul weather gear around the crotch and under the arms, all in all I should of wrapped myself up in cling film, complete and utter waste of money.

However, all is not lost as I would personally recommend the bib and brace style Guy Cotton wet weather kit, yes it's alot thicker material than the norm but it serves its purpose.

Like every thing in life the set does not come cheap, I paid £100 back in 2002 and the suit is still 100% water proof to date, with zero tear or rips.

    Hope this helps
  • looked on the thread thanks

  • I have a Helly Hansen waterproof that I wear on site. It is the business. As a garden designer I have not had to carry out any heavy work in it but my husband wears one when he goes fishing. Could be worth checking out.
  • Could of guessed that Pro Guard was a Berghaus man - I have 2 but don't use them for work. For me it's Snickers Series 3 trousers with knee pads & Snickers soft shell - brilliant jacket. For real wet & we get a lot of it here it's a US Army issue Goretex Jacket - cheap & good with a strong nylon shell, big pockets, underarm zips & hood big enough to go over a helmet.

Two other essential for me are Snickers winter waterproof gloves - exceptional quality & a Musto beany that has a membrane between two knitted layers so it's waterproof. For the feet Berghaus Goretex - cheap on Amazon.

One day I will go mad a buy the new Snickers Goretex. We spend a fortune on machinery & so little on the most important machine ......us. It is much easier to go out in the rain if you know that you can stay dry & comfortable.
  • Guy Cotten, for serious wetness its what the North Sea fishermen wear.
    Haix boots.
or Army Surplus Goretex jacket cheap and durable £40.00 not paying for the label!
  • If anyone is planning to buy Army Goretex I think that you are better off paying a little more for unused. The US army changed the spec for its clothing to make it less visible to night vision. This means that there is loads of the old spec that is new & for sale. It is also available in plain colours ie not Camo. The difference with the army stuff is that the nylon outer is tough & reinforced. The pockets, zips etc are all big & easy to use with gloves on. The only downside is that it is quite warm - it is referred to as an all weather parka. It is easy to buy a second hand goretex & not discover it's faults till it rains but I did get a brilliant second hand Aigle goretex on ebay for the summer.

Sometimes cheap can be good Lidl sold a "walkers rain jacket" for about £10. I bought two & they are really good with zip off sleeves & surprisingly rain proof.
  • I'm aware that Guy Cotten is for the North Sea and Barring sea too.

I am also aware that I'm at work under all elements and not mincing down some catwalk dressed in labelled kit, I leave this for Friends, family and socialising.

However on this occasion I will explain why this product is my favoured choice, when it rains I'm not the sort to dot off to the pub or slide off home, I stay and get the job done rain or shine and when it rains I choose to stay dry hence the reason for choosing the quality guy cotten foul weather gear, not because its labelled or expensive or it comes in a pretty shade of yellow.

£100 to remain dry and remain on the project, I really must calculate the time scale over 24 years spent on site working while others stare out of their living rooms groaning because they cant get on because its raining, well into 5 figures id say.

Have you seen the friend request that has been sent twice?
  • I Usualy wear a Dickies graffter jacket with cheapo waterproof trousers, still get slightly damp but hey sometimes 9its just easyer to get wet and have a spare set of cloths in the van just in case! Ask Nicky Patterson about some of my fetching wet weater gear whilst working with him in Scotland!
  • I got mine here:
