Tripod Ladders

Am looking to buy my first Ten foot tripod ladder as I'm doing more and more hedging and small tree work.Work ware are distributing what appear to be suitable items but can't seem to contact them regarding BSC (british standard certification).Does any one know what the expected standards are when it comes to insurance or general acceptance. The ones I have looked at (online) Seem light and probably durable but I verge on the side of spindly looking.Any reccomendations?

  • Tripod ladders do not have a classification to conform to yet. Im sure the will soon though! I had a flyer in the post recently from work ware and I think there ladders look good to be honest. I was almost contemplating getting one soon.
  • IMO the ONLY safe way of cutting a hedge is with a hedge cutting platform such as those manufactured by Henchman. A ladder requires one hand on the ladder at all times and you simply cannot do that whilst weilding a mechanical hedge trimmer. The cost seems high at first, but believe me you will never feel so safe up a hight. I have no affiliation with Henchman by the way!
  • Seconded ;-)
  • Hello Daniel

Tripod ladders are not and can not be BSI certified, nor CE marked. To achieve either of those your product has to fall within one of the many categories established under European law for which there is an established standard, eg 'electronic goods' or 'Ladders'. Then you can test against it. If there isn't an established standard, or if your product is not specifically included within that category, you can't test against it. Tripod ladders, i understand from my supplier, are not specified within the current 'ladder' category. Certainly that is the case for our Henchman platforms.

None of this means i can afford not to take the quality and safety of a product seriously. To do so would cost me my business and freedom, thanks to personal liability law for Directors and GPSR regulations which legally require me to design in features that add to safety and design out features that add to risk.

I can assure you our Tripod ladders have had only positive feedback this year.

Hope this helps a bit. You can always call me at Henchman.

    Tom
