Andy as JP says, better off with a Transit, LDV etc, least expensive to run and maintain. Personally I would have the VW myself, if I could afford one, having had a Golf TDI for personal use, but their vans are expensive to buy and run.
Nice 1 chaps that's the kind of essential feedback i need to know! :-)
If a Transporter is the right size a LWB Hiace will be cheaper to run and more reliable. If you need to go bigger then Transit is the obvious choice.
My father has one from new in 94 and its still going strong they are great reliable vans but have a massively inflated price tag second hand and so i think there are better value 2nd buys
i Have one its a 97 pl,ate ,and the best van i have ever driven really nice and solid feel But not cheap too buy and not quite as big as a transit ,they hold there value very well so will have a good resale if you look after it
we get about 40 mpg from it so good on fuel
Come on jp, my mum could change a break lightbulb, you need to learn how to do these things yourself, saves you a fortune!

Hi Andrew,
Just to throw one in from left field have you considered a MWB Iveco Daily?
I know they are a bigger van, but that's a bonus in my book. Also like the look of transporter but too small for me as don't have a trailer and as mentioned, seem to go for big money.
Having said that here (Glasgow) I know the city council have put Transporters through the auctions with pretty low mileage.
Have spoken to two people in last few months who own Iveco Dailys (one a gardener) who both recommended them as good, reliable vans. (apart from fragile door handles apparently).
Might be worth considering, though you would have to do more research on them.
Cheers
Andy
