Strimmer conundrum!

I've got a ryobi strimmer and I like to use the pro cut 2 head because it does a better job and the lines last a long time. I have just ran out of pre-cut strings and thought I was getting a bargain buying the 2.7mm line on a massive roll. The problem is, when I cut it and feed it into the line head, it is all curly and just breaks immediately! Do I have to buy pre-cut strings that are already straight (and very expensive), or is there a way to straighten them out? I've tried soaking in boiling water but that was not successful.....any ideas would be very welcome?

  • My strimmer line comes on a drum aswell and it also goes curly but ive had no problem with it breaking.

It might be a dodgy batch if so take it back it shouldnt break
  • I agree with Martin. I cut lengths from a large roll and although they are curved the centrifugal force straightens them out. With some of the dodgy quality lines or very hard lines you can experience breaking. For the past 2 seasons I have been using a brand " Trail Blazer" which I got from ebay. I have never had it break although it does fray at the ends and wears a bit faster than the more expensive brands.
  • The line is from husqvarna so should be good quality?
  • 2.7mm should not break !! - thats thick line . i bought a large roll 120meters x 2.7 mm for my stihl , it just fits in the eyelets . it never breaks unless i strim concrete or 1/2" bramble stems etc...............

'faulty' , old plastic is your problem husqy line should be ok)

i think i paid about £22.99 on offer and its quiet-line (twisted), and i was amazed it is quieter and has less vibration/ wind resistance !!
