Stihl branding on Viking Mowers

I’ve been trying to get my hands on a Viking MB 655 RS as I need a 21” roller with a BBC and am a fan of the viking’s ability to pick up wet grass, despite their fragility.

I’ve been unable to get one from anyone reputable and seem to now be stuck with an Orange Stihl branded version when Stihl release them for sale at some point soon, following their decision sell them with Stihl branding.

Does anyone have any idea when they’ll be pushing them out for sale? I’m going to need one before the season begins !

I'd imagine it would be Feb March time but with stihl who knows catalogue will be out soon  but I've known some stuff not come out till late summer... I've a mate who's a stihl master tech might be able to ask him

  • PRO

I’d go straight to the horse’s mouth and ask, ie Custoner Services at Camberley HQ or talk to the local Stihl area sales manager.

I sure they’re around in limited numbers / models from comments made at Saltex.

We had a fair amount of contact with our ASM last year and found him to be very responsive. At least you’d get to know the timeline ....

My contact says it should be Feb very early March but they have a Viking in stock I'll see if can attach a pic from my phone edit can't seem to attach file, there my local supplier repair shop.

    Only mistake it's a MB655 VR £815

    • Thanks for your help.

I've just had a reply from Stihl, who say:

I can confirm the following STIHL Variants will be available:

      RM 655.0 V Lawn mower

      RM 655.0 VS Lawn mower

      RM 655.0 RS Lawn mower

They are due to be released for ordering from tomorrow. We are only permitted to supply parts and machines through our extensive network of STIHL and VIKING Approved Dealers around the country.  Your chosen dealer will be able to offer further advice, prices and place any orders on your behalf should the required item not be held in their stock.

So looks like they're going to be able to order from tomorrow in a nice shiny Orange...

An earlier reply informed me that the new brochures are out at the beginning of Feb.

I'm sold on the mower, now just need to try and get myself the best deal, not sure if I'll be better off waiting until the dealers have them on their sites rather than trying to chase one now and paying a premium for one?

      Thanks again

      • Just had a pdf with the bare details of the mower... official Stihl price inc vat £1499... thats an expensive coat of orange paint.

  • Why not go for a Weibang pro roller instead? If you get a hi lift blade on they collect as well as the Viking. The only main differences are that they are cheaper, heavier AND come with a 3 year commercial warranty.

I was in my local dealers yesterday, picking up a few stihl service parts/spares, and they told me if you were thinking of buying any machinery, to do so now, as stihl may well increase prices with the new catalogue.

Apparently Husqvarna have already done so by 33%, ouch!  the excuse..... brexit!!

    • PRO

Stihl have typically increased their prices in Feb to coincidence with new catalog, products and RPI. Most Dealers, especially if you're known to them, will give you the 'nod'. It also feels a hole in their Winter sales to knock out current or obsoleting stock.

'Brexit' is currently a convenient 'excuse'
