STIHL 4-MIX® engine for Kombi system

Looking to upgrade my Kombi engine unit from the 94 R-CE to one of the KM 131's

Ive heard mixed reviews of the sthil 4 mix systems -- can anyone advise if they have had problems with them or they have worked out well ?

Also if theres any need to go to the KM 13 rc ?  Cant really work out the advantages of it at present.

We like ours and the strimmer is a beast which is its main use, the only issue we find with them is after a year or two we find them hard to start which happens with none of our other kit.

That's because the rubbish, overcomplicated 4-mix design involves valves. Get these valves adjsuted (or do it yourself, it's pretty simple) and they will pull over a lot more freely.

Or just buy a 2-mix. Or even a Husky, as that's where Stihl license 2-mix from :D

  • I've used my 130 and others and they're great, all petrol engines seem to have individual quirks, I find it's a matter of accepting them! I haven't, and wouldn't use a combination for brushcutter, as the shaft takes a lot.of stress. If you do it a lot, you should have a dedicated machine, 360, 410 or 460 Stihl models. I'm not a fan of the husqvarna ones, too much  vibe. The only other kombi engine I've used was the bottom of the range, I don't like it for many reasons - trigger sticks, power, vibe, small fuel tank.. but it is light, and does power pole saw on extension of you keep the cutters sharp
