Hi Team

It's been a long winter hibernation for all of us and I hope everyone has remained well.

I'm, thinking of mulching some of my customers larger lawns this year, partly to save a little time and partly to re fertilise the lawns..

Due to the requirement of a new van too this year, I'm thinking about keeping the costs down and purchasing (the still ridiculously high priced) Etesia Pro 46 mulching kit.

Before I do, It would be great to hear from anyone who has actually used one and to gain your thought and opinion on this add on.

I have also considered buying a cheaper new or used dedicated lawn mulcher just for this season but I have have the buy cheap pay twice advice whispering in my ear.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Marc

  • Etesia do a nice dedicated mulcher, ME53. Bought a used one recently, quite like it.

  • PRO

We have a fleet of Pro46's (new shape) and their mulching is excellent

  • I have an old style 46 pro which is a great mower and have the mulch kit. In less formal areas as long as you don't cut it short it mulches ok. My suggestion would be to look at a dedicated mulch mower if you want to mulch all the time. I have a husqi one and with a sharp blade you cannot tell where the grass clippings have gone. My caveat is my experience is with an older model and the new deck design which I imagine will be better.

  • Thanks everyone.

I like the idea of not being able to see the cuttings. I saw a pro Honda the once, cutting down pretty long grass and could hardly see the cuttings. That was fitted with their twin blade system but once again, cost prevents a major purchase at the moment.

Mine Pro 46 is the older designer I think, it's certainly more than 5 years old now. It's just shy of £70,  but being the old shape body I'm not too sure how it will perform.

It may be worth putting that £70 toward a dedicated as you suggest.

  • The mulch was one of the best I've seen on a non dedicated mulching mower. Not sure if my mower was a Pro, but it was a 46 RCMB or somesuch. About £900

Sadly everything else (and I mean everything) fell to bits with a year and a half's use, just two days a week in the season. I would never have another Etesia, or any machine with a Kohler engine.

If you already have the Etesia and are happy, then I'd definately get the mulch kit.
