Pro roller mowers

Lawnmowers - Why can nothing be easy.

Vikings - Dealer told me unless I can wait 4 weeks for parts don't buy one.

Kaaz/Danarm LM5360 -You cannot buy  the pro version  anywhere in Northern Ireland.

Kubota roller mowers, I have been reliably told not to buy one as they give 'bother'

Hayter Harrier 56 - shit in the wet.

Honda HRH 536 - dealer is 20 miles in the wrong direction.

I know I can take my chances and buy it online, however my local repair guy sells Kaaz / Hayter and I like the idea of getting it fixed asap in future. Do I buy the non pro and suck it and see?

Robbie, the Danarm Pro version gives slightly better wheels, a bumper bar, handle supports, deck gaurd etc over the Non-Pro version.

As it is only you who use and are more likely to look after it (ie no bumping, using ramps when loading etc) I'd suggest a Non-Pro version may work ?.

We have a Non-Pro 19" Kaaz/Danarm roller (there is no 19" Pro model) in the Unit we use for small sites etc and it's lasting well.

The Kubota and the Kaaz pro are virtually the same mower. May even be identical. They are both made by Kaaz.

Robbie - the Kubota is a KAAZ variant - although the handles and drive engage mechanism are 'reworked'.

Not sure what part of them gives 'bother' - but i am running two Kubota Pro 821's this season - a Pro Wheeled and a Pro Roller - neither has yet given a seconds bother.

The engines on the Kubota are Honda and thus faultless - the Kubota drive engage mechanism is different to the others, it 'snaps' in and you cannot feather it it - which is what kills these type gearboxes. I will, when I get a minute do a 'long term test' review for LJN....

One of our Kubotas is on its 2nd drive in 2 seasons. Not impressed - cost £475 plus vat to get the entire back end of the machine replaced. Although everything was very worn I think I would have expected it to last longer..

Or am I expecting too much?

We are currently running two kubota's, a wheeled 821 and the new 819 roller. Both have been reliable so far and perform very well.
  • I had a non-pro Kaaz. The only difference is the handle braces amd front bumper: neither are critical although the bumper is a good lifting aid if you are on your own.

Wheels should be the same, and the deck guard is standard I think.

Kubota is the same mower, so it's down to the old issues of rollers needing repairs, where wheeled machines are more long-lasting. When I last looked the Kubota had the upgraded handles and gearbox. The Cobra, Kaaz etc. didn't.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Kubota/Kaaz type if you want a heavy roller mower and that's what the local guy repairs.
