Patio pricing

Lateley i have hardly been getting any of the patio jobs ive been quoting for, im not sure wether im just too expensive or im getting undercut by cowboys. If you dont mind, i would appreciate it if you tell me how much (approximatley) you would quote for this job:

50m2 patio (10x5m) using concrete 2`x2` flags.

To be built on a level lawn against a house wall.

4" sub base.

Easy access, waste removed by skip.

Once ive got a few replies, i'll tell you what i quoted.

Quick back of envelope estimate of £2.1 - £2.5k all in.
  • Around £2500 Would be my quick estimate too.
  • £2k - £2.5k depending on how far away.
  • £2200 is  what i would charge

  • Thanks for the replies, i actually quoted £2200 so i cant be that expensive. The client sais she thought she'd get change from a grand, some people just dont have a clue. She'll probably end up getting some cowboy to just come out and lay the flags right onto the soil.
  • Dont worry about it! happens all the time... Ive had people say "ahh but we were budgeting for about £400-£500, when they want their whole garden landscaping. All down to educating people that materials are not free and a good job costs money!
  • there will allways be some one cheaper but instead of worrying about it concerntrate on what you offer for the price.

Tell the client what a great job you do and how proffesional you are which will justify why you are not the cheapest. Its all about value for money not who's cheaper.

  • i have done 2 paving aeas over 50m this year both very odd shapes both with a fair amount of cutting in both laid on 4inch type 1 and a full mortar bed with 3 size random pattern slabbing in Stonecraft Rutland slabs (works out about £15 per sq metre for the slabs)

    both were charged at £3500

in both cases the client knew what they were asking for, knew it was going to cost and knew they wanted me to do the work, they are both now very happy clients.

So your price seems perfectly reasonable and its the clients expectations that are way off the mark!!!

  • Average patio 15sqm? Never done one as small as that. Average is around 25sqm. IMO people who expect to pay very little for alot are never happy with a scaled down version of what they want. Your pricing is competitive so don't worry about it. Recently quoted on a job with 4 other contractors all of us were (barr 1) within 50 quid of each other (i know this because we all know each other with exception of the one who won it) work was around 6 man days material costs would be around 750 the chap that won quoted 1100! good luck to them I say
  • Bang on for me

    £50 - £60 / sq. metre.

    Equals £2.5-£3k inc. vat.

    My best guess any way.
