lawn fungal problems?

Never having encountered a fungal problem on domestic lawns, can any experts, or more expert than me!, confirm this is the problem and the best treatment. This lawn is mowed weekly, scarified and spiked this year, has been well fertilized....... if anything, overfertilized, ........... and the lady is obsessed with overwatering everything to the point of waterlogging which I suspect doesn't help matters!!!

Geoff - it's beating my degree in Turf Culture to be honest. There is a condition called Yellow Tuft but I would go exploring with your garden knife and see if the moisture level in the root zone is the same in the green and brown areas. If not, use a wetting agent tablet available from The Lawn Shop - see side bar Ad. You can sometimes see this when you change the direction of mowing too. It looks like it has affected the weed grasses like Creeping Soft Grass that ract so violently to a change in climatic conditions.

For the rest of LJN, I am very experienced in all matters relating to turf, grass, lawns, weeds and pests and diseases having worked for over 30 years in the professional and amateur turf markets. See www.lawn.co.uk and www.weedfree.co.uk. Thanks Mike
  • Hard to tell but as Mike suggested, explore a little deeper. Take soil samples and see if you can spot anything under the grass. Also have a good smell of the soil from the plug samples, check for differences bewteen samples from different areas.
