Lawn care license advice

Hi Guys,

I'm struggling to get my head around what actually requires a licence and what doesn't.

I;m just about to go on a flyer drop for my new garden maintenance business and was going to put an offer of 'free lawn feed' with first lawn cut. Am I allowed to put down ordinary store bought lawn feed (Miracle-Grow, Evergreen etc) in someone else's garden?

Thanks for the advice in advnace.

  • Simple answer is no.... all those products are home owner products. This means they should only be used by the home owner on their own property, not for commercial use... many thanks Harry
  • Whilst others, if not everybody, will disagree with me here, in these sort of circumstances, I reckon a bit of commonsense is needed. I'm sure the legislation is not intended to prevent non-certified professionals using weed and feed.............  a fairly innocuous  product that any amateur can buy/apply in any quantity......... often resulting in dead black patches on their lawns:)   Round-up etc............ fair enough........... but in this case, in your position,I'd just go ahead with it's use however I would recommend doing the courses for when/if you wish to use other lawn products etc.

  • Surely the simple answer is yes.

As long as there are no pesticides in the feed i.e. It is a straight feed then no license is required?
  • you will regret putting down shop bought lawn feed unless you are going to cut the lawns twice a week and it could cost you a fortune buy it from a trade supplier in 20/25 kg bags with the right NPK  to do what you want it to do
