Hi all

Im hoping to obtain a new job (an office block) where the client wants some indoor plants in tubs put in the main reception area.  They were indicating that they would like 4 shrubs around a meter in height planted in chrome tubs.  They wanted a shrub that had a stem with a ball at the top.  The only shrubs that i could think of at the time were a photinia Fraseri (Red Robin), and a bay tree.  I have only seen these planted outdoors and would be unsure if these would be suitable to plant indoors.  I was also thinking that maybe a ornamental ivy could be planted around the edges of the tub.

Does anyone know if these could be planted indoors or could anyone suggest anything more suitable?, bearing in mind that she would like that style of shrub.

Thanks

Gary

  • also anyone know where a good place to buy indoor shrubs suitable for this job?

  • We have been maintaining and replenishing the indoor plants for one of our commercial clients for 10 years now.

Not sure about using shrubs in an indoor reception area - better to keep to tried and tested 'indoor' (tropical)plants - there's a good choice.

Will be pleased to help in any way I can Gary - where are you located?

  • Hi Colin,

We are located in Bromley, Kent.  Was hoping to find something quite close to her description.

I didnt think of tropical plants but thats not a bad idea, dont suppose you know of any that could fit?

    Thanks

  • Another contract wow im doing something drastically wrong.  No red robins, would drop leaves all over the entrance..keep it simple Gary, how about some evergreen topirary bushes (Buxus ),   with shapes and height... easy to maintain and can get them already in stylish pots at the local nursery.... job done!   Or B&Q have some nice indoor ball topiary shapes with chrome pots would of thought..   All ur have to do is a little trim and water now and then..

  • If you have a couple of hours, a little trip round the M25 to Europlants at Potters Bars may be worth your time.  They have a good Tropical plant selection as well as extensive topiary.  Not the cheapest but may be worth a call or visit.
