    Does not bare out true to the letter but is generally correct - Cant reference as it involves a friend and it was settled out of court, But I know for a fact a Magistrate threw out the point about re-deployment in a case regarding a builder and the homeowner apointing their own plasterer at short notice.
    The magristrates point was roughly this - re-deploying to another job simply displaces the loss of diary time, and as time is irreplaceable, the loss still existings Bringing another job forward pushes the "void" into a future date, so the loss of 3 days work still existins but now its next week. Sooner or later further advertising cost or work quoting will be incurred to fill this void, and this could also constitute lost work - as work was allready invested in aquiring the initial job.

    This was part of a larger contract and this is born into the decision as this was also accepted undisputed ongoing work on site.... Which was also undetaken iniitally on the basis of "a whole" so remoivng an element of it is quite different to canceling a whole job.

    It would be interesting to find other cases and see how it is judged on a whole job basis.

    I feel the original scenario is 'creeping' a little

    This is different to B2B contracts (as I am sure you know from FSB etc)

  • OK, so original post is now 3 years old, but based on advice I changed £100 today for a 12ft Leylandi that took in total 3 and a half hours, no waste away, ( compost pile) it hard and skilled work and the customer can't cut a 12ft hedge. Know your worth.

      Agree. Too many undervalue their work & skills and can get fixated on an hourly (labour based) rate that does not take other factors (like skill, difficulty, fudge factor) into account.

          Does this price 0.77 per sq metre apply to both sides of the hedge and top  or will both sides make it double , what about a hedge reduction of say about 2 metres where you are getting into thicker branches ? Removal of brash must be a separate charge ?

            It's what it says as far as I can remember.. £0.77 per M2 cut.
            It's mainly for big contracts I think as it works with scale not on Mrs smiths 12ft privet!
