I believe that to directly answer your question. You have no responibility to trim the neigbours side and doing so without their premission could land you in trouble.
Only done a large hedge job yesterday with the same problem.
I asked the client if they have spoken to their neigbour which unfortunately they haven't. I popped round to next door and advised them that I would be cutting the hedge and could I come on their property to tidy up just in case any trimmings went their side - They always say yes! I then dropped in to the conversation who currently cuts their hedge and gave them a price for cutting at the same time or a higher price if they called me back a little later.
Going back next week.
Best bit is the weight - only 13lbs and so easy to start - one little tug and off she goes. Lenght in total is about 92 inch of which the blades being 22 inch. Don't think you can interchange the heads. Only minus point is the on / off switch - it's backwards to all the other machines and do on the odd ocassion turn it off by mistake.
I find the Shindaiwa is far better than the stihl long arm but do have a stihl pole if I wanted to go really high but being a little on the short side I fine it is heavy and can't use for long periods.
When we get a hedge trimming job we generally book it for about 1 week in advance and say to the customer to ask the neighbour at the same time. I would advise though it may be worth talking to the neighbours yourself on this one. Some people crave privacy and want their hedges to grow taller. Boundaries are a difficult subject as it is anyway, you may want to ensure that everyone's happy with what work you intend to carry out before you do the work
Hope that this helps
