Fuel pipe for Kombi

My main Efco Kombi is currently out of action , drive shafts mysteriously sliding out of all the main parts for some reason I think its too knackered to repair but in the meantime until i get something organised urgency beckons so i got out my old but trusty back up AMA kombi , Starting problem , traced it to the fuel tank the fuel pipe with the pick up filter on the end has come detached from the thinner piece of fuel pipe which goes through the hole at the top of the fuel tank , no way can i re connect it as the thinner piece of pipe sticking out the inside of the tank is just too short to squeeze the thicker piece of pipe onto and to be honest both parts of the fuel pipe are starting to disintegrate so need replacing . Parts are no longer available for the AMA but i can find plenty of fuel pipe and fuel filter pick ups on line , If i buy the same dimensions of fuel pipe approx 3 mm which attaches to the nipple on the carb and then threads through the hole in the top of fuel tank , working to the same measurements it will still be too short to squeeze a new thicker piece of pipe with pick up filter on but i can manage it if i make it longer so it comes out of the top of the fuel tank , Sorry this is long winded , Question is will it matter if the thinner 3mm dia length of pipe is longer than the original and the thicker 6mm dia is shorter ? as this seems to be the only way i can think of reattaching the pipe . or is there a better way ? Thanks .

  • Bit tricky following you there!! Shouldn't matter at all with the different lengths.

I know a bit of a tongue twister but thanks Graham i wasn't sure if these fuel pipe lengths are calibrated somehow to deliver optimum performance ..

  • I have seen fuel pipe with different diameters at each end.

I do not think the length will be a problem

Driveshafts been sliding out of my stihl kombis for over a year now. Doesnt do it any harm as far as I can tell (no wear on them)

Absolutely no sign of wear on mine either Seth , Efco Dealer said it was okay when it was coming half way out but now it just shoots out , also the long reach extension bar shaft has started shooting out both ends and now when i attach strimmer unit it wont release the unit without some force and twisting its like its welded on .  Hedge trimmer doesn't seem to pick up when i first install it .   It started when i switched from stihl mix to the recommended efco mix and engine started racing , I know it sounds weird .  Dealer said this engine sounds fine , i agreed , yes of course it will when you first fire the machine up and your not cutting anything , but run the machine for half an hour cutting hedges and it becomes a different machine .

I am thinking about going to see my Stihl dealer for a long reach hedge trimmer .

        Oh right I see John.

At least with the stihl shafts it a little plastic retaining clip that fails when they get a bit dirty/rusty down there. But seems like yours have vibed themselves apart.
