Transit Connect spares

This may well apply to other manufacturers as well.............. Over the last 3 years, I must have replaced 4 of the corner bumper pieces and the other day, completely demolished the r/h wing mirror unit due to some dodgy reversing and a gate post!!.  Anyway, picked up a brandnew wingmirror unit complete with the manual operating lever/cable from Ebay for £31 including postage.......... I'm sure a genuine Ford one would be well over £80. It fitted perfectly..... a chinese copy I'm sure. I then thought I'd look up the bumper corner pieces that normally cost me £35 from a Ford dealer............ these were going for about £6!!  I'd certainly recommend looking on Ebay first in the future for these sort of parts.

  • many years ago...... maybe I need a refresher course!!!  I find my main problem is reversing round sharp corners with the trailer......... the spare trailer wheel is mounted at the front corner of the trailer and if I turn at to sharp an angle, the spare wheel catches the corner of the bumper and knocks it off!!
  • yes..... must admit I was pleasantly surprised that it was a perfect fit as I expected problems as it was so cheap!!

Ebay is good but be mindful that often the repro  parts are sometimes fractionally different in size.

I bought a transit mirror for my van after I had to swerve to one side to avoid rear ending a car that did an emergency stop due to sun in here eye at 60mph!!!!

£69 from ebay (Electric heated mirror) rather than £130 odd from Frauds parts department. However a frustrating half hour messing about trying to align the rubber seal until i realized it had been made fractionally too short compared to the genuine one. Still a tube of black silicone cured it and the van is going very soon so still better than buying a genuine part.

Another possible source of cheaper parts is from  http://www.partsgateway.co.uk/

My sons just used it to get replacement drive shafts for his Civic (as his mate dropped the suspension too far and conseqently knackered the old ones). Saved him a few quid ( the parts gateway - not his mate!)

just tried that out of curiosity......... seems like an excellent source for secondhand parts though none of the traders on the site were able to beat the Ebay price for a new pattern part.
