We've had our fair share of discussions concerning accreditation over the years.

Some people say it's the only way forward for the landscape industry and small groups strive to push the be the accredited group of choice.

However I wonder if this fixation with accreditation is sustainable?

What I mean by that is, if product suppliers advocated the use of accredited landscapers only, how could they then position themselves to sell their products to non-accredited landscape companies? It would be commercial suicide to promote accreditation over non-accreditation.

I don't have the figures but my instinct tells me that non-accredited (and I use that term only as a title and not as a recognition of the groups who apply it) landscapers and designers buy the majority of landscaping materials. If a product supplier relied solely on the business of accredited businesses they's surely go hungry.

In my view it is time to promote good business practice and track records over accreditation. After all, if landscape groups cannot agree amongst themselves what is the scheme of choice, what chance has suppliers of pasting their colours to the accreditation mast?

One last thought:

Cowboy builders and rogue traders buy landscaping materials. What lengths to product suppliers go to to ensure that they only sell to reputable businesses?

They supply Rolawn. They have just informed us it is now grown with the plastic mesh inside (octogrids) We are not too keen on this as we were told, by another supplier, that lower quality turf has this in to keep it together. A lady from Rolawn called us this morning to tell us that they have NEVER had a complaint about the mesh- they we are the first people!

We pay around £2.31 (inc VAT) a roll when we order over 200 rolls. When the order is under 200 it can range from £3.50 - £4 a roll.

We are now looking at other turf suppliers and wondered who others can recommend? Some local companies supply Sovereign turf- does anyone have any experience using this?

Aye and Susan

Enticing suppliers, equipment providers etc onto LJNhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/forum/topics/enticing-suppliers-equipment2011-05-07T09:47:47.000Z2011-05-07T09:47:47.000ZGary RKhttps://landscapejuicenetwork.com/profil/GaryRK

Every so often we get an equipment supplier or distributor etc join LJN and participate well on the forum, some even go on to be become advertisers or site sponsors which benefits us all.

My question is : what could we do as "members" to entice more to join ?

The benefits to us can be increased exposure to new products, ideas and perhaps contractor deals.

I find it a really useful source of information, maybe not all relative at this moment in time but the knowledge gets placed in our domain for later use.

However, I think when this happens we need to be receptive and professional in our comments. I don't mean we should not pass on constructive criticism or valid concerns but sometimes I think we shoot ourselves in the foot. I would not like to see any potential contributor put off for fear of unfounded negative, or throw away responses that stick.

Your views, comments (constructive !) welcome....

Is it bad IT systems, complacency or they just don't need the business - I do wonder.......? Anyone had similar experiences either dealing face to face, on the telephone or online with dealers that don't seem to want the business?
